DH NOT SUPPORTIVE OF RULES

gijimenez5's picture

So two weekends ago I went out to get away from SS12. I have a strict rule that no one eat on the couch, especially since I am the only one who cleans it. When our BS05 eats he likes to eat on the steps of the living room with a table (which I allow since wood floors are easy to clean). DH complains all the time that he should be eating on the table (I agree but I just find it easier to pick and choose my battles)every now and then I give in to him. Anyway so what do I see when I come back home, DH has set up SS12 to eat with a table right in front of the TV (of course god forbid he sit on the steps)on my COUCH!!!

Why does he feel that he can break the rules behind my back. Why does he complain when our BS05 eats on the steps (no where near couch) but thinks it's okay to put SS12 on the couch! URRGGHHHHH!!!!!! I hate the double standard.

Now even when my BS14 eats on the steps he bitches and says why is he eating there he should be eating on the table. HELLO RETART I never said not to eat on the steps, I just don't want your kid eat on my couch that I clean not you. God forbid your son eats on the steps since it's not directly in front of the TV. Even my 5 year knows better!!!

Thats what I had to do in my house. Everyone eats at the dining room table and therefore we don't have to argue about this constantly. I got sick of the kids bringing food downstairs and not cleaning up. Its gross. I like my house and rugs clean and we have two pugs that will eat anything. Last week one of them ate a box of chocolate munchkins that SD and her friend snuck into her bedroom.

If they don't like my rule, then don't eat!

That would help but I'll be the first rule breaker, by the time I get home, cooked dinner, completed HW all I want is to sit in front of my couch and catch up on TV for 1/2 hour (I am multitasking eating and catching up on 1/2 tv). Then it's time to do dishes, bathe son, read stories, serve DH dinner (he gets home late). Then I iron and watch more TV. I have to practice what I preach not a fan of sitting at dinner table, and while I do enforce BS14 and BS05 I let them come to living room every once in a while.

I have issues w/this too. Especially w/popcorn, as the steps always have popcorn and at least 90% of it ends up on the couch/floor. I tried the "always eat at the table" rule, but frankly, when they are here, I can't stand eating at the table w/them because no one has ever bothered teaching them table manners, and I can't stand to listen to them slurp their food and chew & talk w/their mouths open. So I just end up cleaning up after them or bitching at SO to make them do it, which usually starts an argument.

Everyone is told to eat at the table at my house, on rare occasions if my kids are watching a movie in my room I will let them have a snack in my room but they are to eat it on the floor not on my bed. I also have a problem with popcorn, it get's everywhere and drives me nuts.

I do most of the cleaning in the house...so you'd think I would be able to ask for a few things...like no shoes in the house, food at the table only, aim INSIDE the bowl, not out....I mean, c'mon, is that SO hard to do?

My BF and his son break these common courtesies all the freaking time. I even bought this horrible looking blue sticky mat to put at the door to give the hint, like "hey, take ur shoes off!" All my BF says is, "gosh, I hate that mat, it's so ugly." So I say, "well, I have to put it there because NO one wants to take their shoes off." He doesn't comprehend, hence his son not following the rules either.

How can rules be enforced when the other adult is constantly breaking it?!
