Vent- Procrastinating about plane ticket
We have decided to not go back home for the family party and just fly SD up for her 2 week break. Nobody is giving DH an answer on the dates that work for them, and the weekend the break starts is BM's birthday (I don't give a damn) but am sure she'll cry about it so I told DH he needs to figure out times that work for them. I also think BM is mad that SD will have to fly alone both ways as she's never done it before.
Normally I don't say anything about SD anymore but the longer we wait, the more expensive the ticket will be. It's already up $40 from last week and this will affect my finances also. I told DH AGAIN to get dates and he just comes home from work saying he "didn't even have time to wipe his ass" and he'll do it. FAAAAAACK!!!!
The break is Sept 28-Oct 6 so less than a month now. DH knows last minute stuff stresses me out but I'm TRYING to be cool. I also told him that if SD can't come out until Monday (BM's bday is that Sunday the 29th) to make sure it's when he's off work so HE can pick her up.

It would be so much easier to
It would be so much easier to ignore this shit if it wasnt for finances $$$
I think I should ignore it
I think I should ignore it anyway but unnecessarily spending the extra money is starting to fester.
I totally feel your pain.
I totally feel your pain. Tickets are up $60 from when I last looked for Thanksgiving. We still don't have an answer on that or the dates for Christmas.
I am not sure if she is required to be an unaccompanied minor or not but I just want to share the horror story of my bios flying to their dad's this summer!
They were already 3 delays in at at this point, you could see the storm rolling in. As soon as the walk way was brought in- Lightening! So then they were stuck there at the gate but not allowed off for another hour and a half. They missed their connection. The airline then said they would just have to spend the night in Dallas. Their SM and I were both on phones threatening peoples lives if my kids weren't on a plane. The airline said they couldn't bump other passengers for unaccompanied minors. I was like either my kids are on a flight and some adults are off or your better charter a F*&%ing private jet for them!
The finally got put on a flight and made it to their dad's at 2am. It was so scary because it was their first time flying alone too. But more-over, their SM and I decided that until one of them is 18 we are paying the fee. If they had been just a couple of years older, they never would have been re-booked. They are too young to rent a hotel room or even Uber somewhere (have to be 18!). They had some cash but no credit card or anything (they were 11 and 13). They would have been stranded alone in an airport over night.
At least with unaccompanied minors if that happens they do take them to 1st class lounge areas to sleep and make sure they have food and are semi comfortable. I probably would have made cousins of mine drive 3 hours to get them had they been stranded in Dallas, but something like that isn't always an option depending on your family and the connecting airport.
He's sticking to nonstop
He's sticking to nonstop flights so that there's no connection issues and she will be unaccompanied. I think they don't even allow parents to walk you to the gate after a certain age but I could be wrong. I flew to see my mom and back since I was 8 and even did connecting flights so I think this will be a good lesson for SD but also no one ever makes her responsible for anything so she'll get her hand held as much as possible, I'm sure.
I wish non stop flights were
I wish non stop flights were an option! The closest airport to us that does non-stop to LAX is 4 hours away. If you are paying the unaccompanied minor fee you have to stay with them and stay in terminal for 30 mins after take off.
I think it is good for them too, as long as things go as close to plan as possible! LOL
I'm waiting for a call back
I'm waiting for a call back from Delta because online says it's $150 ONE WAY!! I've never heard of that before and think that's beyond ridiculous.
It is 150. But there are
It is 150. But there are cheaper options out there, not Delta. Your SD approaching age when she can fly without assistance. So it will be only few years like this.
I suggest if you have a spouse who doesn’t plan things, keep finances separate. Then it doesn’t effect you as long as he contributes to mutual household bills on time and discussed amount. After that it doesn’t matter what he wants to spend on tickets to see SD.
I don't know where you are
I don't know where you are flying to and from, but $300 round trip is pretty decent as far as I'm concerned. What did you expect flights to cost?
It also MUST be a nonstop
It also MUST be a nonstop flight because she's never flown alone and BM is "nervous".
She meant fee for children
She meant fee for children flying as “unaccompanied minor”. Not price of tickets. You are paying for service, them watching your kid etc
It wasn't like that when I
It wasn't like that when I was growing up and the flight attendants just knew who you were.
What do you mean “It wasn’t
What do you mean “It wasn’t like that”. Like what? My DD flew regularly unaccompanied minor since age 9. Different airlines. She is 31. Yes they knew who she was because we registered her as unaccompanied minor. That’s why flight attendants knew. How do you think they knew? Your parents made it known when they bought your ticket. It was the same then as it is now. Not sure what you mean.
Oh gotcha.
