Confession #2

I miss the young adult stage of my life

when the men had hot bodies (we had the most options in terms of choosing men) and mf didn't even know the definition of stress .... adulting is no joke

Now I'm making love to dad bods with compression socks, bengay, and cpap machines

I'm at an airport gate waiting til boarding starts and just had a medicinal gummy!

Biggrin

Hell yes!!! I always take one preflight

I discovered if you fly through ATL (and probably other "liberal" cities) you will find C.BD vending machines .... in the airport terminals

Confession.. Hubby is out seeing his ferals and I just popped some gummies and ordering in osso bucco from the new Italian place and binging that new show with Kristen Bell. Also splurged on a new eyeshadow pallet and some lemon scones from a new bakery in town. Today was not good on the wallet lol.

I'm binging STalk with Antique Road Show playing in the background lounging in my dad bod.  Sadly, no recreational substances for me. Though I have a notable colleciton of high end libations, I have not libated regularly in a few years. due to the Low Carb program I am on.

When I do libate, I quite enjoy it.  I have never been a heavy drinker so ine cocktail and I have a cool buzz and I'm quite relaxed. Even at my less than svelte size.

I'm not a pharmaceutical guy. My industry terminates employment immediately for being under the influence at work or testing positive on a drug screen. Whether those substances are legal in that State or not.  Anything detracting from safe work focus is not tolerated.

Fortunately I married my mid life crisis 30yrs ago so enjoying a smokin hot beautiful brilliant woman is not something I have to go hunt for these days.

Don't kick me out please. I would be decidedly bored.

Safe work environments are a must.

Indulging in anything while at work is insane!

I personally prefer to work independently or for employers that aren't invading privacy and unnecessarily collecting DNA.

There is a time and place for everything

Sadly the rare bad apples are driving employer paranoia fueled privacy invasions on everyone else

And I'm "borrowing" your new to me vocab words of libations ... I'm usually more on the mock tail side these days but that sounds more delectable

None of my employers have ever collected DNA. Nearly all of the companies I have worked for domestically and internationally practiced pre-employment drug screening, annual screening, random, and reasonable suspicion testing.   This necessitates having employees list the meds that they are on since if a test is failed and a substance is not prior-ly disclosed.... termination is immediate.  Refusal to test is also immediate termination.

Dangerous industrial environments are dangerous enough without people participating in enjoying liquid, narcotic, or pharmaceutical dumb ass while working.  The safest substance to use when not at work is alcohol since it is not discernible in tests after 24 hours. Even when someone smells like a distillery if it has been 24hrs they will blow a 0.00 in a breathalyzer test.  I had a direct report supervisor on my staff who came to work smelling like he had been swimming in vodka.  A Sr. client manager demanded we terminate him.  I got a call from the plant manager, I updated him on the investigation and the 0.00 BA test, and I informed him I had sent the employee to the showers and to change clothes. The plant manager had my back and we did not have to fire the supervisor. Though that individual was under a hairy eyeball for quite a while after that.

I have had to fire people for refusing reasonable suspicion tests when they were witnessed and reported for having some dark corner transactions including money and small glassine packets.  They refused to provide a urine sample, they were gone within an hour.

Some industries cannot tolerate people being under the influence of any intoxicating substances.

Partaking of various substances if someone is a 100% home office coder, etc... no problem.  Being baked, or loaded, or tweaking during work in those types of professions does not represent a safety or health risk to others.

My own testing history includes a very late faint negative indicator for Cocaine. Every drug test I have ever had to take, Cocaine looks like it will be + and very near the time limit for the results to show I will get a faint line under Cocaine.  Those tests show a line for negative.  Any line, is a good line. Even when it is exceptionally faint.

I am on a ton of Rx meds and have been since I was in my mid teens.  I take no chances. I list them all when I am selected for testing. Even as the Sr. leader I have always kept myself listed in the random selection software with my people.  One year, I was selected 9mos in a row by the random number generator.  My team would give me loads of shit for that.  Because of that, when someone would complain about their number coming up a few times they would immediately get pummeled by my team that  made it clear that "The boss gets pulled all of the time. Quit whining!"

I have airplane TERROR, and the gummy lasted 1/2 way through the 6-hour flight tonight. I took it 1.5 hours before boarding. The flight had several bouts of turbulance and I was so relieved when we landed I was in tears.

Now I'm safely ensconsed in a hotel room, driving a few hours to get home in the morning. Biggrin

I get pretty anxious on the plane with other people so my last couple of flights I would have a gummy pulling up to the airport and since it lasts pretty long time I'm able to better enjoy the travel experience when I'm not freaking out about every single detail.

Good thing you arrived safely!

Rags's picture

Having regularly flown globally since I was 4yo, I have zero anxiety regarding air travel.  My butt hits my seat and I am nearly instantly asleep.  I check seat location in relation to aircraft exits as I make my way to my seat, look at the safety card then I'mand instantly out.

I totally get it.

If I were running a company with truck drivers or ran a day care or something I'd be very concerned with ensuring my employees after hours indulgence didn't interfere with their work performance (because that could negatively impact others in a significant way)

I don't see how people come to work "tweaking" lol  in any job because whoever does that needs more than a random drug test they need rehab. Can't even work a typical job at all while tweaking. Might as well just call out and tweak off the clock. Idk

THE fastest way to a one way ticket to random drug test IS to come to work baked, tweaking, or loaded .... that's people who want to get caught bc they're silently crying out for help/needing treatment

time and place for everything and work is not the place for indulging

My last employer annoyingly gave drug tests 1-2 times a year but one year they said we could chose to take a test that did not include a certain substance because it was legal in many states. Which btw this employer is not in a sensitive industry like driving, working with minors, or public facing customer service so maybe there was some leeway to be lax

Also from what I understand sports teams are not testing for particular substances anymore - again with the legality of more states considering it legal like alcohol

At the end of the day (with exception of non critical positions ex public transport, surgeons, teachers, public facing staff etc) if a person is responsible and shows up to work and their performance is up to par then I do think pre employment drug tests are unnecessary invasive nuances employers use for control. I won't do them anymore. If it came down to it, I thankfully can get work done efficiently/earn income without employers.

Anyhow this may be another topic for another day. So many interesting points to expand upon that you bring up.

Reminds me of this time my coworkers wanted to catch Mexican for lunch and they decided to order margaritas

im thinking these margaritas will be watered down but nope they were kind of strong and I'm a light weight

So since we were in training and just listening to trainer I'm thinking one margarita won't hurt if I drink it very slowly.

I did get a slight buzz

As we get back to the workplace, these mfs were like "okay enough of classroom training now let's start driving"

im like driving ?!? Noooo.....

Thanfully I purposely waited to be the.last.driver and by this time I had fully metabolized the drink from lunch

Let me just say that was the first and last time I had a drink during a lunch break.

If I'm indulging it's on my days off or after work happy hour.

I'm just there to do the job collect a check and keep it pushing ... last thing I want to do is draw negative attention to myself
