Has DH's coddling given SD20 an overinflated sense of her own self-image?

Elizabeth's picture

SD20 is waging a public war online with a girl who evidently is interested in (or so SD20 believes) her man.

SD20 has been overweight her entire life. She wore a women's size XL when she was 10, slimmed down quite a bit while going through puberty and growing more up than out, and is now back to growing out. BM is nearly as wide as she is tall, and SD20 is going to be the same way. SD20 has absolutely NO muscle tone. She reminds me of those people on WALL-E who have been in space so long they lack muscles and a normal body structure. SD20 only posts headshots of herself online, as she hasn't gained as much weight in her face as she has in the rest of her body. Even so, people tell her she looks more and more like BM every day, and that is NOT a compliment.

So what does SD20 choose as the thing to highlight in this "girl?" Yep, her weight. Keeps calling her fat, talking about how she eats too much fried chicken and mashed potatos and needs to do some situps and fix her cottage cheese a*s. Seriously?! WHY would you choose to call someone out when you are even more in need of your own advice than they are?

This girl is having quite a bit of fun with this, as she's absolutely right in that she's much smaller than SD20. Just the weirdest thing, and it makes me wonder if her self-image is SO distorted she doesn't even see it. DH and I fought about that a lot when SD20 was a child because she was getting so fat it was messing with her bone structure, she was extremely knock-kneed because she'd stand with her feet wide apart but her knees together, and when I tried to correct it I was being, you guessed it, "mean."

Dh would always deny that SD was fat as a child, even when she was above 98th percentile for weight (while only being about 50th percentile for height). He claimed her belly wasn't too big (she couldn't wear ANY size of kids' jeans), her legs were just too short. Now I'm all for giving a child a healthy body image, but making excuses doesn't do that.

Yes, both are classless to the extreme. To be bragging publicly about who f*#ked SD20's boyfriend and when and who he liked/likes more and whose as@ is fatter?

Don't ever talk about weight when it comes to my skids. According to DW, her 5'9" daughter was "normal" when she weighed over 200 pounds. And her 5'10" son, who weighs over 300 pounds, is "just fine."

>WHY would you choose to call someone out when you are even more in need of your own advice than they are?<

Either she is - as you say - in complete denial about her own weight problems or she is enjoying the annonymity of the internet.

You score points for making references to that WALL-E scene. It's one of the few scenes that had me laughing and then wondering if I *should* be laughing.
