You are here

I am SOOOO freaking angry right now.

I had a big job on today, a one-off spring clean (despite it being autumn here) So, my dd's are off visiting there dad, I get up and have a leisurely breakfast, enjoy my coffee, gather supplies that aren't part of my "normal" kit to take out to the car....

Go to grab my keys and they aren't there....

Now, we have a built in set of shelves by the front door, 5 shelves floor to ceiling. The keys go on the middle shelf, there are hooks on the side, and ss10 and sd13 have both at various points made daddy key holder things which usually sit on that shelf. When he left last weekend I moved them way up on to the top shelf with his cricket trophies (out of sight until I got around to packing his stuff) On Saturday we realised they were still up there and I put them back on the normal shelf.

On Sunday when I took dd's to the airport OH checked the oil and water in my car (I took his car to the airport - mine's playing up)

FF to this morning. I search the house, turn it upside down, obviously the first thing I did was check all the shelves - well the top one is very high so I ran my hands as far as I could reach and nothing. Searched everywhere. Nothing, called OH, he checks his car, can't remember where he put them. Is all "so sorry honey".

I postpone my job.

Keep searching. For over an hour I turned my house upside down. Yes the skids were here this weekend. And all the while I am thinking 'that little bitch has taken my freaking keys!'

Eventually, when I have run out of ideas I grab the steps and look harder on the top shelf, and there they are, pushed right to the back behind the trophies.

Now - SOMEONE went to some trouble to get them up there, they weren't just chucked up IYKWIM, they were well out of reach and as far into the back of the shelf and behind something as they could possibly be.

Called OH, PISSED OFF. He says "Oh, I may have done that!"

REALLY????? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????? *YOU* DID IT?????? I TOLD HIM I DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM. HE HUNG UP.

If one of the skids did it, that is one HELLUVA passive-aggressive move!

Hopefully DH carelessly threw them up there.

there is no way in hell my OH after 2.5 years of putting the keys on one shelf would just randomly decide to hide them on the top shelf, that's the point -

a. they were well placed, you couldn't get them as well hidden if they were just tossed
and

b. WHY would he after all this time decide to toss them on the top shelf (we're talking a 6ft high shelf?

And yes, my SD is very passive aggressive.

I don't have one.

At this point I am just so sick of it all.

And more than anything I am sick of him pretending his princess wouldn't do this shit - THAT is what has me the most angry - his response - to take the blame for it rather than just say "sorry honey, it was a stupid thing for her to do"

You know??

All I really want from him about it is to acknowledge that she does this shit.

Any ideas gratefully received. Of course it goes without saying that there will be absolutely NO reaction or acknowledgement of them being missing by me. She will NEVER know how mad I am.

Interrogating the kids - smart
Sitting at the dining table until fessing up - better

Hiding something in the same spot ---- priceless!!

He has texted me since he hung up, all sweet and contrite, I think that's the best I am going to get - no admission but I think we BOTH know what it means.

To be fair to him he HAS stepped up since the horror of last weekend, he has been here for me, put me first, been helpful and considerate and more free with the info, AND not running off with the skids all the time for "special private time" I don't know, maybe I have finally gotten through that if he wants them to accept this is his life and home he needs to incorporate them INTO IT rather than keep them away?

This weekend for eg. Normally on a Friday evening he picks them up and spends a few hours elsewhere with them just hanging out catching up then brings them back here, tea and usually a family movie. Then Saturday he takes them out for most of the day just the three of them, followed by tea, movie/games night and Sunday we all spend together.

Friday night he picked them up and came straight home. Sent them off to play while we watched the news, cooked tea together, we watched the football kids played upstairs (a little different routine this week as it's Easter hols so no dancing for my dd's) Then they were sent to bed. He was affectionate and loving and didn't distance himself from me like he usually does when they are here.

Saturday - I got up earlyish, did a few loads of washing, decided to make pancakes for brunch for everyone. So I whipped cream, laid the table, got everything ready and when they all got up I started cooking. OH got up and while I was cooking he worked in the garden, kids played all together. We ate - was pleasant. Kids went off to play some more - sd and dd11 went into town (5 minute walk) to the library and the shops, dd8 and ss played outside. We did stuff around the house. OH and SS built a dog kennel for the dog (well der!) Had tea, kids played, we all watched a movie and went to bed.

Sunday - dd's had to be at the airport by 11 so we had to leave by 10 - we got up and got ready and off we went - they were all still in bed. OH looked over my car (as mentioned LOL) After I got home we took the skids to mini golf then home for tea and dropped off. (as mentioned it is school hols at the moment, so we try to take them somewhere over the hols - for a treat)

NO Disney daddery! NO pandering. NO running off for special times, just including them in our day to day life!

One week down and I am happy with him apart from this key incident.

Here's hoping there's no regressive behavior. (My FDH always seems to regress a bit...two steps forward, one step back.)

"Steplives are like UFOs" Oh yeah, I definitely feel like I'm from a different world at times!! Or, more like it, some of these dads are from a different freakin' planet!
