Entitled SS17
BM ordered SS17 an expensive coat for Christmas. It arrived at BM’s House yesterday. So when SS17 got home from school he opened the box and wore the coat over to our house. He and SS13 didn’t see BM before they left her house.
BM calls DH and before she asks to talk to SS17 she tells DH what SS17 did. SS17 gets off the phone with her and has a smirk on his face.
DH just shakes his head and says to me, “if I would have done something like that my mom would have killed me and returned the gift.” I agreed with him. DH also said that although BM sounded upset she was trying to laugh it off like it was a joke.
At dinner, DH to SS17: “What you did was wrong and illegal, opening other peoples mail is illegal.”
SS17 to DH: “But it’s my Christmas present.”
Me to SS17: “If you ever do something like that at this house I will return the Christmas gift and every other Christmas gift we got for you. And you will get nothing for Christmas.”
DH to SS17: “BettyRay is right; consider yourself warned.”
The look of shock on SS17’s face was priceless.
After dinner DH said that it’s a shame that SS17 has no boundaries with BM. I told DH that SS17 is an example of what happens when a parent feels they have to be friends with their kid. The child considers himself the equal of their parent.

What a little SHIT. My kids
What a little SHIT. My kids wouldn't DARE to do such a thing. I would have sent back the coat too. Wow, the nerve.

I know. I told DH that if SS17 did that to me I would have driven over to BM's house. Knocked on the door and asked for SS17. When SS17 came to the door I would request the jacket. Once I got the jacket I would leave and drive straight to the post office and mail it back ASAP.
I would also have kept the box it came in and wrapped it up (empty) and placed it under the tree, and that would be the only "gift" SS17 got. But I'm mean like that. }:)

DH was right on point with this situation. I'm proud of him as he was and still can be a Disney Dad.

I love what you and your DH said! I couldn't imagine if one of my bio or skids did this!!
Proud of your DH. At least
Proud of your DH. At least he sees it and is trying to teach the kid to be a decent person. Shame on BM for not punishing the kid. I would be mad as hell that a kid ruined Christmas.
The rest of the
The rest of the story....
Apparently BM's SO was home at the time and witnessed the whole thing but said and did nothing to stop SS17 from taking the jacket.
Didn't know what to make of this. :?

I don't think so. They
I don't think so. They started living together about 4 months ago. The Skids said that they had to sign a house rules/chores contract when they started living together and DH has mentioned that BM's SO enforces house rules.
