I'm in a funk

MidwestStepmom's picture

This last week I was diagnosed with stress induced migraines. They were so bad that I was vomitting and was laid up in bed for a few days. I went in and got a shot and got some medication for future episodes. BS went to daycare for a few days and then my dh took a few vacation days to stay home and help. I return to work tomorrow, I hate that job, I'm sure that's where most of my stress is coming from. I've had promising interviews and have a final one tomorrow night.

I feel like I'm unhappy with everything, I mean: with dh baggage, being a mother, our finances, my job and life in its self. Has anyone ever felt this way? What did you do to get over this funk? I don't enjoy being a mother, but then I feel bad for not enjoying motherhood. Dh and I went to our first session of therapy last week and have another one on Tuesday.

Stress from work can affect EVERYTHING. That being said, maybe talk to your regular doctor and ask if there's any chance you're clinically depressed? If *nothing* is making you happy, maybe you've got a chemical imbalance going on...

I feel the stress now. I have been getting headaches that I have never really gotten before I am just so stressed lately. I have no advice but I just keep looking at when it will get better and making plans to get there.

How old is BS? I ask because my DD is now 14 months, and I've really started to enjoy her now. The first months were awful, and I struggled a LOT until she was almost a year. And I have a LOT of help. PM me if you want to talk about it, I know it seems like everything's supposed to be wonderful so it can be hard to feel 'safe' saying it's complete crap and you hate everything.

Sorry you are having to deal with this! I started getting migraines in my teens and they progressively got worse into my early 20s. I was vomiting, blacking out etc. It was awful! Thankfully right about the time they started getting real bad, Imitrex came out (at the time you had to go to the ER and get a shot) it was a lifesaver! My Dr. also put me on a low dose high blood pressure medication (he determined the migraines were vascular?) which seemed to control them. I did that for a few years and Dr. said to try and stop the meds and see if I was still getting them and Glory Alleluia! I never got one again!

They are just awful and I don't know how you do it with a little one! Sad Hope you get a better job and get to feeling better soon!

^ THIS!!!

You need to know that what you are feeling can be normal for many women. Most don't speak about it. Can your therapist help you find a support group of women having similar issues? A good friend that you can be honest with would likely go a long way.

You aren't a bad Mom. Being a Mom is an AWFUL job. I'm not sure why anyone would like it.
