O/T just need to rant.
I can NOT stand my DH's dog!!! If there was a way I could let him out of the house and get him to run away I would. He WILL run off if he is let out of the house off leash...but he never goes far. He just goes to the neighbors house to try to kill the little mutt they have. He is going to end up biting the neighbor and then I guess my problem will be solved. I am by NO means an animal hater. I LOVE my dog! LOL His is just not well behaved. I have a head cold or a sinus infection...something going on because I feel like shit. I was laying in the bed, drooling on my puppy because he basically sleeps on or under my head, and DH's dog goes APESHIT at the window! Barking and growling, acting a fool!Of course I spring out of the bed because he scared me to death! DH says that he is good protection and while I would not just enter this house if I heard that dog barking, it's still annoying. He acts like that all the time and more times than not, there is NOTHING and NO ONE outside! He has been doing this for going on 30 minutes. I finally had to throw his ass in the garage!
He begs for food at the table. One of my biggest pet peeves about dogs. I realize that he has been fed people food for the past 4 years but really? I hate that. I don't want a dog staring at me the whole time I am trying to eat. DH will make him get under the table but I don't even like that. He doesn't need to be in the kitchen at ALL during meal times. My puppy is crated during those times, why can't his shitty dog be in the garage? And heaven forbid I try to punish the dog for acting like an asshole. You would think I was the devil and just being mean to be mean. DH acts like I am killing my puppy when I discipline him. He NEEDS discipline or he is going to be a little ankle biting asshole! I don't beat him but I am not against spraying him with a water bottle or popping him with a rolled up newspaper.
His dog is 61 lbs of unruly mutt. He's a cross between a German Shepard and a Boxer. Mine is a little 10 lb terror. He's a Frenchton. It's a little easier to contain mine when he's being an asshole. I just put him in his crate but he never really does anything THAT bad. He rarely ever barks, unless he is playing and he's not tall enough to look you in the eye while you eat. Plus he's crated. His biggest fault is chewing but he IS a puppy so I can't be mad at him for that. Just have to watch my precious shoes! LOL
Sorry so off topic...I am just ready to lose my mind with Barky McAsshole!

MY little man has taken to
MY little man has taken to barking, A LOT! He wants treats, he barks. I am not paying attention to him, he barks. He is ready for bed, he barks. He looks out a window or the back door, he barks. I hug H, DD, my mom, he barks, jumps up and down and dances to get my attention. The two females (my little girl fruzzybutts) taught him to bark.
See if you can find something to get his attention away from the barking. Try using tiny little treats for positive reinforcement to stop the barking on command. A hotdog cut into tiny bits works wonders. You can even chop up a baby carrot if you are worried about the calories.
I have tried to get him to
I have tried to get him to stop. He hates water so I tried spraying him. Didn't work. I tried bribing him away from the window with food. That worked...until he was done with his snack! I even took him outside to show him that NOTHING was out there. Still didn't work. He's not all there I am being to think.
He could def use more
He could def use more exercise. The yard used to have underground fencing but he found a spot where he could jump the line so...can't leave him out to play anymore. I walk him outside probably 3 times a day but he is a pain in the ass to walk. He pulls and I don't like walking a dog like that. I used to have big dogs and all mine behaved because I TRAINED them. This dog has had zero training. He knows basic commands: sit, lay down, shake. But he only does those for food. DH better get a handle on him or he is going to be a garage dog during the day.
Thanks for the info. I will
Thanks for the info. I will have to share these suggestions with DH. My dog plays for 30 mins with a water bottle and then passes out for hours! LOL
Get a cable from the pet
Get a cable from the pet store - they are available in a variety of lengths for different weights. One end clips to the dog's collar and the other end can be clipped to any number of things. We have a chain dog collar wrapped around a post and the end of the cable holds the ends together. The dog can be outside and run around.
I believe he had something
I believe he had something like that and broke it because I have made that suggestion before. Our yard is kind of screwy anyway...it's more of a hill than a yard. I didn't pick this location for a house...this was MILs doing. WHY anyone would want to live here, I have to clue. We are actually living in the in-laws old house and repairing and fixing things to get it ready to sell.
If he broke it, he needs a
If he broke it, he needs a stronger cable. I believe they have cables available for dogs up to 250 pounds. Our dog is 125, but only needs a 70-75lb cable. He could break it quite easily but a couple of jerk-backs and he quickly established his "perimeter".
Has DH's dog had training?
Has DH's dog had training? I'm not sure what state you are in, but I sent my pup here: http://www.highlandcanine.com/
It was expensive and in kennel boarding training (he lived there for a few weeks) but he came back a totally different dog! Worth every penny!
Only the training (if you
Only the training (if you want to call it that) that DH has given him. We had to take the dogs to the vet the other day and I was SO embarrassed by DH's dog. He was barking at all the other dogs in the office and the people and then peed on the floor. I have toys and kongs for him that he will play with but then he will start slinging them around the house and breaking shit. He's like a bull in a china shop. He has too much energy for me. And when DH gets off work, he's too tired to really mess with him. He needs a farm to run on but he'd probably kill all the animals on it!
Also, I have this for my dog.
Also, I have this for my dog. Whenever he starts getting bored and acting out, this will entertain him! Just fill with treats or pieces of kibble. Great for mental stimulation.

I have a german shorthaired pointer mix.
I understand your
I understand your frustration. I rescued a dog 3 years ago, roughly. He's now a 150 lb pitbull/golden retriever mix (they told us boxer mix,he's not). He does the same barking thing but if you snap at him and tell him to knock it off, he'll walk away for a few. I crate him when he gets excessive. We work so both dogs are crated during the day. I just rescued a pitbull/lab?? mix and she's 11 weeks.
I notice with the older dog, if DH takes him on a walk he's much better. DH use to run and take him, that would do the trick too. He sounds bored. I know it's irritating when you don't feel good, trust me. Mix breeds also tend to be more sensitive to their environments from my experience (had them most of my life).
We moved a little over a year ago and our older dog went nuts for about 3 months. He didn't know the area, the sounds, the other dogs running loose (we live in the country). We had to reassure him ALOT.
I'm thinking of training for both of mine because the older one will run away to the neighbors too and it's a long darn walk/run to get him back.LOL
If I yell at him to knock it
If I yell at him to knock it off, he will stop long enough to glare at me, then he goes right back to it. He is still in the garage and can stay out there until DH gets home. He has a crate but apparently he goes OUT OF HIS MIND when put in it. I have never witnessed this but I have been told. I have always had pit bulls before now. I just decided I wanted a smaller dog...although he's like a mini pit bull. I only ever really had an issue with one but that was because he had separation anxiety really bad. He didn't bark a lot but he would tear the house apart if left alone for too long.
DH is going to have to figure something out with him. I can't deal with his excessive noise all the time. This isn't an every now and again thing. He has a barking episode at least twice a day. And of course when DH gets home he goes absolutely insane, which I get that, his master is home.
Lol used to but it became a
Lol used to but it became a clothes hanger! So it had to go. I prefer outside and I take him sometimes not all the time because I can't walk him and my puppy too. Plus like I said he pulls and I get frustrated.
We can't take him to dog
We can't take him to dog parks because he is aggressive. Not to ALL dogs but you never can tell which ones he is or isn't going to get along with. Thankfully he gets along with my puppy or there would have been a serious issue. The flirt pole sounds like a good idea but I would have to use it in the garage or house because our yard has the underground fence and he jumps that. He's a real asshole most of the time.

Here is a picture of my "angel" BTW.
Sounds like your frustration
Sounds like your frustration for the dog's misbehavior should go toward the source of it - your DH - instead of the dog.
He didn't train his dog properly, and now you want to blame the dog for not automatically knowing what humans want of him and acting like an untrained dog?
So many parallels between this situation and Disney Dads who are just *shocked* to end up with spoiled entitled kids. Except kids understand a bit more the social expectations that are appropriate, since they are of the same species and all.
