SD Went to Emergency Room Yesterday

FinallyFedUp's picture

So, SD has a cold. Yes, a cold. And she had her friend take her to the emergency room. And yep, they confirmed - a cold. Oh and possibly a pinched nerve b/c she was a little stiff. She has no insurance and no money, so tax payers can foot the bill.

DH made excuses. Well, she's allergic to too much stuff so she HAD to go. (aspirin and ibuprofen) He tried to tell me about it last night. (Don't care.) And he even said 'poor kiddo.'

1. SHE IS NOT A CHILD. She will be 22 in December.
2. No normal person goes to the ER in the first day of a cold. I could understand if she was dehydrated, super high fever, throwing up non-stop, anything. Nope, just run of the mill cold - first day no less.
3. Last time I had a full blown panic attack (thought I was having a heart attack at first) I first got accused of doing it to hurt SD's fee fees. And then, he moved on to accusing me of faking it for attention.

God, someone please call me back for a job already!

Wow…22 huh? For a cold no less. On tax payers dime. Special kind of stupid there.

BM took SS to DR and emergency room ALL the freaking time. She wanted him to be sick. The best time was when she took him to the ER for swollen nipples. ER DR told her he was hitting puberty and to go home. lol

OMG, I hope she can surround herself with people the rest of her life who are so fully vested in her--they will have to stop living themselves to make certain she is fine all the time.

He is NOT doing this woman any favors by enabling and reinforcing this selfish behavior.

You need a break from this BS for certain.

Everyone sees it but him. She will NEVER grow up and she will NEVER support herself if he keeps this up. I didn't sign up for this. I knew he had a child, but I DIDN'T know he'd have a child FOREVER. I love my kids to pieces, but I am so excited to see my oldest getting ready to leave the nest!

My SD25 is not too bright, doesn't have a lot of common sense, is very immature but even she would not do this.

A lot of people go their whole lives without seeing the inside of an emergency room because, well, they are for EMERGENCIES. Life threatening emergencies.

Especially these days, with Urgent Care centers, extended doctor's office hours, walk-in clinics. No excuse to go to the ER if not truly an emergency and at 22, she should know the difference.

Her dad should not be making excuses and encouraging this behavior, he needs to tell her to grow the eff up. Poor kiddo, my ass.

I was in the ER with DH 9 years ago when he broke his wrist snowboarding, and a girl in the bed next to him was crying and telling all the nurses how sick she was feeling, and I heard the doctor come in and tell her she was pregnant. I never saw her because the curtains between beds were closed, but she sounded very young and naive. Total waste of ER resources!

I've only been in an ER three times in my life. Once when I got tossed from a horse and landed on my head at 9, once at 17 when I flipped my car by falling asleep on the freeway, and once when I went to urgent care recently for intense back pain. That one turned out to be a kidney stone, but the urgent care sent me to ER because their ultrasound showed a giant fluid-filled thing in my abdomen they couldn't identify. 1/2 a dose of dilaudid, some fairies flying around the room, and an MRI determined the large thing was a 7in ovarian cyst and the pain was a kidney stone.

I hate when people go to urgent care or ER's for ridiculous things. Not only you you make people in need wait longer, it makes the doctors/nurses jaded. My brother took my nephew (2yo) to urgent care for a really high fever/lethargic/dehyradtion and they tried sending him home twice telling him it was just a flu, and give fluids, tylenol, and rest. It took a second doctor coming in to look at him for the urgent care to realize that the dehydration was real and not an exaggeration. Poor little guy hadn't been able to keep anything down in almost two days, including fluids. Once they got him hydrated, he bounced back pretty quickly.

This happened to my grandma!!! When we took her to the urgent care they said she had injured a muscle and that is why she was in pain. My mom and grandma were visiting me from out of town and it happened so fast. Mom drove her back to their town and took her to emergency where she was properly diagnosed. They told my mom, given a few more hours and she might have been dead Sad

I've known two people with cancer who ended up in the ER for fecal impaction on the advice of their oncologists. Some chemo drugs cause severe constipation and they don't want them doing an at home enema if the cancer involves the colon or any organs associated with colon. So you might want to err on the side of compassion on this one.

One of my very good friends is married to a Radiologist. Just out of med school, he had to do a rotation in the ER and said that the craziest thing he ever saw, was once a guy came in with a fish in his butt. :? :? I asked him how he did NOT laugh out loud!

I would bet the correlation has more to do with those let down by an inadequate education system than inate criminality.

I was in the ER a few years ago for 2 broken fingers and I heard the Dr. come into one of the curtained areas and ask the guy what was up. The guy said he was hot. The Dr. was like "you're hot? Well, yes, it is pretty hot outside. So is there anything else going on?" The guy was like I don't know, I'm just so hot. I was like WTF????? I'm sitting here with not one, but TWO broken fingers and this fucktard is hot? And most likely has zero insurance... ugh.
