SS wants to play sports

missangie1978's picture

SS is 10 and he's never really been into sports but now that he's been living with us he has decided he wants to plays sports. Fine by us but the only issue is that BM has him every other Friday night through Sunday night so if he plays on a sports team he missed 50% of all games.

We talked to BM but she's not willing to drive him to any games or allow us to do so.

What would you do in the situation?

We had the same problem, we decided that 50 percent of the time was better then no time, playing sports. We were always available to take him on BM weekend.
Time passed and eventually she saw how foolish she was making herself look and the only person she was hurting was her son

We did inform the coach of the situation when we signed up, and informed him that ss would be out alot.
He was very cooperative and even received an extra player to even things out.

I would put him in even just for your weekends, maybe she will come around.
I hate to see a kid miss out on sports because the BM just wants to pull rank
good luck

that BM will see that she's only hurting SS but honestly we know that's never going to happen and that means he'll miss 50% of all games and DH isn't sure if that's fair to SS and the kids on the team.

I would talk to the coach, people are very understanding and realize the complication of kids with divorced parents. My ss was in soccer so they always had extra kids, because they rotate.

I worried about the team also, but if the coach knows ahead of time, he can plan around it, for each game

BM might just hold her ground and never allow him to go during her time, but that is something that she will have to answer to her son later.

So if their are 12 games in the season, he is sure to go to 6, 6 is better then nothing. and Im sure ss will appreciate the effort, sometimes its these little things that matter most and what they remember
Maybe in his mind he will remember that his mother did not take him.
.
You can have all the sports pictures, she wont.

and have it specified that he take the children to their activities. They play one sport or have one activity at a time. How ridiculous is that?! Now he lives an hour away so they end up missing every other weekend game. I just cleared it with the coaches ahead of time and explained the situation and they were fine with it.

Heaven forbid that you would want your children to be able to take advantage of learning a sport, being part of a team, getting exercise, fostering friendships, etc. It's more work, I suppose, than letting them play video games all day.
