BM posts pics of SD5 holding 2 shot guns!!
Forums:
It was just brought to my attention that BM just posted pictures on social media of SD5 holding 2 different types of shotguns both bigger than her, with her finger on the trigger in a bedroom. CPS tells me they can't do anything because it's not abuse or neglect, are you fucking kidding me?!?
I have the pictures saved on
I have the pictures saved on my phone now too! How are we sure dumbass BM knows they aren't loaded?! Anything else I can do?!
I grew up in a hunting
I grew up in a hunting family. Depending on the situation, this wouldn't necessarily be anything to worry about. Why does BM have guns? It does seem strange that they would be posing in a bedroom. If they're just playing around with guns for fun, then that's pretty sketchy.
If we were hunters I wouldn't
If we were hunters I wouldn't care either, BM has no experience handling guns obviously SD doesn't. She moved in with another friend and didn't inform us and is in a bedroom with the guns sitting in the corner not put away in a safe place and SD holding them by the trigger. I mean BM is unintelligent/uneducated especially with firearms there's no way she could tell if it was loaded or unloaded.
Yeah the guns should
Yeah the guns should definitely be locked up when they're not in use. My SD actually mentioned "Mommy's gun" to me recently and it scares the crap out of me because she's crazy and has no reason to own a gun. Her BF is a hunter though.
Exactly! BM doesn't know
Exactly! BM doesn't know anything about guns,. It's bat shit crazy people like this that make people scared over gun control or how kids end up getting hurt innocently. I'm all for having a gun for safety or hunting..etc but when you are trained or know what you are doing of course.
Not a big deal depending on
Not a big deal depending on the situation.
I too was raised in a shooting family. I learned to shoot in my single digit years, I shot competitively in high school and college and still enjoy an afternoon at the rifle, pistol, or skeet and trap range.
A pic with a shotgun is no different than a pick of the kid holding a hammer. Both are tools.
I wouldn't see an issue if BM
I wouldn't see an issue if BM or even SD knew basics of gun handling, safety..etc. BM nor SD5 know how to handle a 20g shotgun. There's no way BM can tell if a gun is loaded or unloaded especially if they aren't even hers
Idk I tend to agree with
Idk I tend to agree with rags. I was shooting 20---12 gage shot guns before age 10. With nitro bullets no less.
SS5 has been taught, and practiced shooting my 20 gage shot gun. With supervision obviously, but he did pretty well. Maybe it's a texas thing.
That being said, her simply holding a gun is not going to be grounds for cps to be involved. There is unfortunately no way for them to prove BM's prior gun knowledge, and it's not breaking any laws to allow children to hold/shoot guns. It is certainly irresponsible though
I have unlocked guns in my
I have unlocked guns in my bedroom. I grew up with unlocked guns in my home. I knew as a child growing up that I would get beat if I even was caught thinking about touching the guns and I never did. My children are the same way they know daddy's guns are not to be touched. They never have. we don't have them loaded anyway and they are so heavy and old that I have a tough time getting a bullet in them and cocked. So if it was a situation like that I would say you have nothing to fear, but it's not. That is scary stuff that the BM thinks it's okay to teach SK to play with guns. I say that you need to counter it with sitting them down and making sure they know that they shouldn't play with guns. they might accidently hurt or kill somebody with it and say I know you don't want that to happen. say do me a favor when you are with your mommy will you stay away from those guns. I don't want you or anyone else hurt.
I don't come from hunting
I don't come from hunting family and have issues with children around guns when the parents don't know anything about guns.
My suggestion would be to find a gun range in your area and ask what you would need to do to get SD educated on gun safety. Her mother obviously isn't going to teach her anything, it's up to you guys to get that education for her
I'm a gun owner and also have
I'm a gun owner and also have my CCP, so to me guns are to be respected, but not a huge deal...
But then again, I was raised around them.
I think the problem the OP has is that (and I"m guessing here, so bear with me) the BM is not a gun-person (i.e., raised around them, uses them, knows about them). I do NOT find it amusing that pics were taken of a small child holding guns WITH FINGERS ON TRIGGER. I don't care if they were loaded or not. So on that, I totally agree with OP that it's something to be concerned about. I get that not everyone has spent time with firearms, and quite honestly they ARE something to be feared if in the wrong, irresponsible, or untrained hands.
I just hope the guns are normally stored away safely (i.e., gun safe) and not just sitting around.
You're exactly right, my
You're exactly right, my point is irresponsibility to have two shot guns sitting in a corner of a bedroom and then to post pictures with SD holding them with her finger on the trigger just so BM can get some attention on Facebook. I wasn't raised around them, I don't have an issue with gun ownership in the correct hands , DH was raised around them he knew his father had guns but again they were always put away safely, never seen much less within DH's reach. Another issue is BM liveds with a friend and that girls parents and has yet to tell us her new address (3rd move this year yet, court took time away from DH for the sake of STABILITY because SD started school this year..the irony right?) so I don't have an address to leave the police department for a tip but I do want to plant that seed so even the Police Dept. can be aware of my concern and at the least will have a call recorded for court when we can go back next year.
I was raised around guns as
I was raised around guns as well...But, from what you said seems like a huge issue. I would see if you could find a gun safety class and teach this child about gun safety. This could be very dangerous. And the BM letting her pose with the guns in a bedroom seems odd and it obviously shows that the BM doesn't know about gun safety either.
I agree, call the police and maybe they can seize the guns if they are not registered.
There is no situation EVER in
There is no situation EVER in the world where a 5yr old should be handling a gun. EVER.
Call the police- like Sally said. I can't believe CPS did nothing!
I can see why CPS would do
I can see why CPS would do nothing. You may as well have called and said, "She's living in a house with a pool!" (You've seen those stats, right? More kids drown in swimming pools than are killed by guns, by far.)
I agree with the posters who say to get SD into a gun safety class geared for kids, and talk to her about the dangers. (If she were living in a house with a pool, I'd say get her into swim class and talk to her about the dangers.) If BM isn't going to teach her daughter, then it's up to Dad.
Bm sounds like a complete
Bm sounds like a complete moron and idiot btw, hunter or not. As far as abuse is concerned I’m not sure you will get anywhere with cps unfortunately. Your husband choose a real winner to breed with.
Absolutely get the Skids into
Absolutely get the Skids into a gun safety class as others have suggested. If BM is going to be irresponsible, the counter is for you and DH to be responsible..
Good luck.
