How true is this?

I might be showing my age here but, how true is this.....

A long time ago when kids got into trouble they could not go outside and play....

Now days, if kids get into trouble they have to go outside!

And we all know why......

True enough!!! Going outside is like a MAJOR punishment these days. Although in my neighborhood the kids do go out more often than a lot of kids. One time Creature refused to keep herself busy. I told her three times to go find something to do. The first two times she completely ignored me. The third time she defiantly told me no. I gave her one last chance with "Go find yourself something to do or I will decide for you". She said no again. I picked her up and placed her out the front door and closed it behind her. She wailed for about 15 minutes out on the stoop. I am sure the entire neighborhood thought we were torturing her. When she figured out she wasn't getting back in, she shut up and actually had a pretty good time out there.

SS10 is the opposite. He LOVES being outside so when he's punished and NOT allowed to go outside, it's torture!

That is great! he has to be one that is not obsessed with TV, Internet and video games. like my SS is. If he has to go outside, its total torture for him, all he does is complain. All he wants to do is Play on the computer or play the Wii. Nothing more!

Don't get me wrong, he loves the Wii and Playstation but his obsession with these games goes in phases. If there is a new game, he just HAS to play it non-stop till he's done and won't play outside.

OMG do we have the same SS??? SS8 hates being outside, he wants to play video games ALL f'in day long and if he does take a break, its to watch TV or to go play more games on the computer! We do monitor this so this isnt what he does at OUR house. I remember being his age and you couldnt keep my ass inside. I played with the kids in the neighborhood or on our playset.

Funny thing is I have talked to other parents with boys older and younger, and it seems this day in age, that is all they want to do...

I guess its part our fault, we supply the computer, we buy the video games and have a TV in every room of the house...

Right now, my SS is not allowed on the computer for any reason what so ever. He decided to get on it in the middle of the night and look at sites that he has no business looking at. He knows his way around any block.

At the "other" house in our situation, Creature watches Spongebob around the clock. She doesn't even see the outdoors because Wingnut keep all the shades drawn.

soverysad..... I have to ask, why did you come up with the name "Creature"? I laugh everytime I ready that.

Love it!

Glad to make you smile. It is actually from Harry Potter. His house elf was named Kreature and I though it was hysterical. Kind of works since in the book, the house elf had to do whatever the master said. Creature has to do what I say (hahahaha)
