Sometimes the attitude is hilarious.
We spent the day at the mall with the kids, letting them play in the play place. She got pissed and said life was totally unfair because we wouldn't let her chase and terrify little toddlers.
Then we went to go build stuff in the lego store, and this is the point in the day where she burst into tears letting the whole store know that she missed her REAL mom, because her REAL mom would have bought her all the toys she wanted.
Then we went to go buy the kids new shoes and here she threw a fit because they gave her a sticker at check-out that she didn't like.
We finished up the day by going to the candy store. SD6 was told she could pick out one kind of candy for after dinner. She proceeded to throw a full fledged tantrum about how it was so unfair that we wouldn't buy her MORE candy and we don't get to make the rules in the candy store.. So then we said we were not going to buy her any candy at all and she burst into tears and said, "I loved you ALL DAY LONG and *THIS* is what you do to me?!"
I completely busted up laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was.
^^This. Kids got one warning.
^^This. Kids got one warning. If it continued, we left.
Amen!
Amen!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^PERFECT^^^^
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^PERFECT^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Exactly how my parents handled my brother and I and exactly how I've taught my daughter. DH's daughter, not so much. She did a lot of the same whiny, explosive tantrums and such until my DH finally grew a set and laid down the law. Now she doesn't even want to be around us. LOL Go figure...
Wow you have more patience
Wow you have more patience than I do, for sure. After her first little outburst she would have been taken home and put down for a nap, and/or time out in her room.
Why did you continue to take
Why did you continue to take her to do fun thing and buy her things all day if she was acting like that? I can kind of see buying her shoes if she needed shoes, but why on earth did you take her to the candy store??
That is not hilarious, that
That is not hilarious, that is repulsive. I am pretty certain that after the first outburst, we would have been on our way home.
We spent $60/ticket to take
We spent $60/ticket to take the skids to Hershey Park this weekend. SD6 had a meltdown 10 minutes into the park because we wouldn't let her buy a giant chocolate bar at 10am. (sidenote: why the hell do they have GIANT candy stores at the very front of the park .. GRRRR!)
DH picked her up and carried her right back out of the park and made her sit in the car for 30 minutes while SD4 and I rode a bunch of rides. With the walk to and from the car, plus the time out, it was a good hour and 15 mins she missed out on.
If you tolerate it, it will continue to happen.
