Holiday Family Obligations….

Lillywy00's picture

Thankfully all my key relatives are out of town, I'm no longer obligated to spend holidays with a partners family, and so I can actually relax

My dad claims his gf got me and my kiddo a gift. That's so kind of her (and I wish he would have told me sooner so I could have procured something in return). And he invited himself over to drop it off. I really would rather not since my place is littered with boxes since I'm still ordering / assembling furniture but if he is inviting himself and making me obligated then I'm going to obligate him into taking some of these boxes out of here.

Anyways I ordered a pre-cooked Turkey dinner and I'm simply throwing it in the oven

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas / Kwanza / Hanukkah

Merry Christmas. I'm sitting here stalling for time to limit the holiday sh- show. I've been a mega grinch this year and idgaf.

It's okay to be a mega grinch sometimes. I embrace it lol. I bought a grinch sweater, had it delivered, but not a package in sight ... which ironically not getting my grinch sweater activated my inner grinch

I lost my dad to cancer December 2021 and I would do anything to see him again.

While I totally understand being annoyed about someone inviting themselves over, let this one slide and hug your dad tight. Enjoy every minute you can.

Also, given what you've been through, he probably wants to be sure you're ok. Enjoy his visit!

Fellow Grinch here. I got both of SO's sons pretty nice gifts from their Christmas lists. Both said after opening something to the effect of "Um, those lists were a joke. I can't use this." Then there was SO's sketchy Christmas text from either his hairdresser or his cousin, depending on which explanation. Fa la fricking la.

Also, JRI is right. Screw the boxes. Enjoy the visit. They will be happy to see you.

The whole holiday has become a spectacle over here. I can't stand a bit of it. If it still had the true meaning in my corner of the woods, I would love it. But that's a blog for another day. It's been the weirdest Christmas ever.

Thanks for you alls recommendations

In typical drop by fashion he called and was like "oh I'm on the way be there in 10 minutes"

Dude why happened to telling me what time and giving ample opportunity to prepare

Anyways thanks to you all, I did drop my annoyance levels down a bit, offered him food (he was scared to eat it even though I had it catered in), listened to him talk about getting old and remembering his youth (he claims he tried a cigarette when he was a teen ... and got super "drunk" lololol ... in my mind I'm like how you get drunk off a cigarette unless you smoked some weed or something else), and tried to help him with tech stuff (Omg - helping the elderly learn tech is rough)

And I could let him leave without helping me remove boxes!

Mom bought them for us many years ago.

But, for us, it is more of a joke than a philosophy.  The Holidays have always been important to my family.  Every year, no matter where we may all be, we get on a call so my dad can read The Night Before Christmas from the book they bought for my first Christmas.  Only one time in 59yrs has dad not read it. He was overseas and could not get a call through.  So... I read it.  I am the only one other than dad who has ever read it for our annual Christmas Eve reading.

We had a great Christmas. Though in the last 24hrs, of the 12 of us in the Rags clan who gathered for the hoidays, 6 of us are COVID +.  We all spent the 24th through mom's B-day on the 26th together.  SS, DW, mom, dad, and me all tested positive yesterday. My nephew tested positive this AM.  So far my niece and her DH, my positive nephew's DW, my brother, my SIL, and my youngest nephew are negative.  I hope it stays that way.

My hat, is absolutely correct!!!!

Bah-humbug!
