OT - Forn Friday
Forn is a combination of 'food' and 'p0rn'.
Let's talk Fall comfort food! Soup, chili, stew, bread, biscuits, muffins... nom nom nom!
I recently discovered beer bread. I'd had it once years ago, but it was a box mix (just add a beer). This recipe is quick and easy (queasy?) and I'm ready to experiment with seasonings and herbs. Maybe even use a fruit beer to make it sweet. Here you go...
BEER BREAD
- 3 cups flour, sifted
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 (12 oz) beer, room temp
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix dry ingredients and beer. ( I sift all dry ingredients together.)
Pour into a greased loaf pan.
Pour melted butter over mixture.
Bake 1 hour, remove from pan and cool for at least 15 minutes.
NOTES: This recipe makes a very hearty bread with a crunchy, buttery crust. If you prefer a softer crust (like a traditional bread) mix the butter into the batter instead of pouring it over the top.
Wishing you a stress-free and enjoyable weekend!

Lucky me, I just got a new
Lucky me, I just got a new mixer that I intend to inaugurate this weekend. Beer bread it is! And I have lots of lemons and limes in the fridge that I NEED to use, so maybe citrus bars or cookies too.
Cannot wait. If I weren't so damn busy at work I'd be home this afternoon baking.
Sweet! You won't need your
Sweet! You won't need your mixer for the beer bread - a wooden spoon will do.
I luuuuuuurv me some citrus cookies!!! *yahoo*
Amazing
The beer bread looks amazing and so easy. I'm salivating.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Per DH, "Baby, you can make this every week!"
I've been craving good food
I've been craving good food but since YSD is here and I refuse to cook I'm deprived. I don't know what DH is going to do this weekend because he hasn't been to the store, and the fridge is nearly empty (literally). I'm going to pick up something quick tonight on my way home because *I* want a normal good meal.
Tomorrow I'm taking the car to visit a friend and I don't know how he's going to go shopping.
He made a comment last night on the emptiness of the fridge and lack of things to cook...."Yeah, sweetie, it's amazing what happens when I don't go to the store every week like I used to." He was like, "Yeah, funny!" But I could see he didn't get it.
I am going to make a good cocoa for lunch - from scratch.

Cover, when I disengaged and left skid meals to DH, they ate a lot of pizza and frozen foods because DH hates to cook. And I always made a solo meal of deliciousness. (Enjoy that crappy freezer meal while I whip up some Shrimp Scampi or steak!)
Maybe your DH and SD will create something absolutely scrumptious with odds and ends!!! (Why, no, I am NOT laughing!)
There are some really good
There are some really good hints and tips in here I will be putting to use.
I admit I jumped on the sourdough band wagon and my starter is actually ready to use, so I will be attempting that this weekend. I am excited because I love me some good sourdough.
I haven't had good sourdough
I haven't had good sourdough in forever. Jelly!
I have a super duper easy no
I have a super duper easy no knead whole wheat (100%) bread recipe if anyone wants it. The trick is to properly activate the yeast and do not try this bread in too cold of a house.
