The good and the bad

Good: both SDs flatly refused to help clear the dinner table last night. I said nothing to them after dinner but asked DP to make sure the table was cleared and cleaned. DP asked nicely and again and again. Then he flat out demanded and made sure as heck it happened. Good for him. I think he may have even called them spoiled (although he's not sure HOW they got that way...). So win on disengagement it keeps working.

Bad: SD12 keeps not locking front door. DP is on her about it but nothing is resolved. We got into it a few nights ago and I told him I was not going to discuss it with him again. He had freaked over the cost of auto locks which is him only other option. I asked SD12 last night if she locked the front door when she leaves, "yes, all the time." Well I had startled her last night as front door was not locked and she didn't hear me come in....which actually freaked her out a little. So I was home from work today and SD12 didn't know. I heard her leave and not lock the door. She comes home and uses her key. She's surprised to see me. We chat a bit and then I tell her, "you didn't lock that door when you left and you didn't know I was here." SD, "I was running late." Me, "that's what you say every time." SD, "but I was!" Me, "I don't care. It takes 5 seconds to lock it. Figure it out because it can't continue."

A little later...Me, "Hey, didn't you have track?" SD, "I quit." Me, "Of course you did." I go back to what I was doing. Two weeks, $250 of gear. All on DP. I predicted it. It's why I don't pay for anything at all. DP never told me either, I won't say a word.

Vacation 2 days.

DP will waste funds on sports/activities that the kids quit but not make sure the house is secure? I don't think the keyless entry deadbolts are that expensive which have an auto lock feature that you can turn on or off, I have one. However when we bought a new house it would not work with the existing door. Skid who was 20 at the time would always leave the door unlocked and it drove me nuts. So I bought I storage room handset lock (cheaper than keyless deadbolt), it is cheaper, and I installed it. It is always in the lock position and you always need a key to open it. When I did that DH asked "what if skid forgets his key?'. My reply he is 20 years old if he forgets his key he can wait until one of us comes home from work and if that happens to him he will never forget his key again. I paid about $40 cdn for the lock at Home Depot.

Here is a link to the type I am talking about http://www.kwikset.com/products/functions/storeroom.aspx

Yeah I think I need to go back to the store and talk with someone. I may have the same issue you did in that those styles don't work with our current door...I'm not going to give up!

LOL the $ he dropped in the clothes would have paid for the lock.

Oh, he'll still pay for it.
