Lease Signed for SS, Pretty Good Sunday

TwoOfUs's picture

SS came over and signed the lease and the loan agreement with DH and FIL today.

Then we had a nice Sunday afternoon meal with SS, OSD and OSD's boyfriend. It looks like there are some quarterly checkpoints regarding grades in place with the loan agreement, and it seems like SS is taking it pretty seriously...so this could be a good launching pad for him.

Overall, a successful, not enraging skid visit. Hoping this kind of interaction continues...

Thanks, Heaven Wink

I really am glad for SS. I was actually getting excited talking to him about setting up a budget and doing some shopping when we go down. I told him that I knew his mom would want to take him down and help him get settled in, most likely...but that we'd come the next weekend, and I'd help him with kitchen stuff / grocery shopping that first time. He's moving August 1.

It's weird to think about the things that most kids haven't done at this age...especially male children. I mean...he's been to the grocery store before, of course, but I don't think he's ever put a full meal together for himself and others. When I was 15, I could plan out a menu, get all ingredients at the store, and cook dinner for a family of 8...lol. And I often did.

I lived with my grandmother for one year during college, and she often said that was her favorite year because when she got home on Mondays and Wednesdays from her 2-day-a-week job as an RN, I always had an awesome dinner waiting...

I thought it was so interesting. At some point in my adulthood I lived with my grandma, well it was more that we just lived together, we rented a place together. She was also RN. And I was also one who did all the cooking, lol my grandma never cooked in her life, when grandpa was also be he cooked. I miss my grandma.

I think so. In general, he's a pretty good and grateful kid...though entitlement will rear its ugly head every once in a while. DH is pretty good about putting him in his place when that happens.

His biggest issue is lack of discipline and motivation...and just a general cluelessness about life. His mom has coddled him a little. He never took to school - so I'm hopeful that this more hands-on, active program will be the right fit and he can find some success. I can imagine it would be hard to stay disciplined and motivated if you never found success, even with your best efforts.

*gasp* travesty! lol

meatloaf is one of my all-time favorite comfort foods. with mashed potatoes smothered in brown gravy, and yes, canned peas (i don't know why, but i love canned peas over fresh or frozen). and it's one of the easiest meals in the world.

I haven't made it either. I would love to have the recipe as long as you don't mind me using ground turkey.

Echo, I cannot believe you don't use Zing Zang instead of tomato sauce. :jawdrop:

i know the majority of the country loves their meatloaf w/ tomatoes/sauce, but i just can't do it.......

i'll skip the tomato products, add a packet of dried onion soup mix, a bit more worcester sauce and maybe a splash of dale's, and some milk for moisture. i top it off with rings of thinly sliced onions, then smother the whole thing in brown gravy.

i also do a mix of dried breadcrumbs and torn pieces of fresh bread. i've heard saltines work just as well but have never tried it.

I rehydrate dried porcini shrooms, mince up some and add to the meatloaf, and make gravy with the rest. Nom nom nom...

I also make a 'Cordon Bleu' meatloaf with prosciutto and provel cheese rolled up jellyroll style.

Thanks Echo! Just to clarify: sauce or paste for the sauce? I'll try this this week.

Hmmm...I'd have to taste them first. If tart, I'd go with salt. Sugar rim if on the sweet side.
