OT - Tone-up Tuesday

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It can often be a day of overindulgence, 6000 calories, and 200 grams of fat.

Do you diet beforehand and lose a few pounds so you don't have to worry about calories?

Do you fill up on low-cal things BEFORE the big meal so you won't be able to eat as much? Maybe a huge bowl of plain lettuce or a bunch celery sticks?

What things will you use/do to 'exercise' control?

I used to do a Turkey Trot run on Thanksgiving morning. I eat whatever I want, but I stop when I am full.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I'm usually too busy cooking to go out and trot. Although, I did have a dream last night that I ran a marathon...

...with my bad ankle and crunchy knees. Bahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

I used to diet between Halloween and Thanksgiving - meaning no alcohol. The last 9 years our family has gotten smaller and smaller. We now all go to Chinese Buffet for dinner. We get hours of just eating, talking and laughing (about 10 of us) with no prep and no clean up.

Hungry in an hour anyway LOL

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Classy, my ex and I used to go out for Chinese for Christmas dinner. My family celebrated on Christmas Eve and his family celebrated on Christmas morning. And, yes, you're hungry an hour later!

P.S. No alcohol is a diet???

dragonfly5's picture

I could not diet, meaning no alcohol....but bravo to you. I need a drink when the skids are over...just to relax...They come and go now that they are 17 and 20. It is so quiet and peaceful when it is just DH and me Smile

I try to eat the turkey or Ham, lots of meat... protein it up. Then I don't eat as much sugary stuff.

This year DH and I are going to NY for a WEEK, to see the parade. We plan to do a honey baked turkey dinner...no cooking.

There will be NO kids.. or family.

Sounds like a great Thanksgiving!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dragonfly, I hear you on that drinking when the skids are over. The last two Christmases, coffee with Di Saronno was my best-est friend!

classyNJ's picture

My SS's live with me full time so I have to take a break or SO will commit me to Betty Ford.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Classy, I can go for days/weeks without drinking! In other words, that's when I'm not home on skid weekends. Dirol

classyNJ's picture

Every Tuesday night is girls night so we have a glass or two of wine and at least one night every two weeks SO and I sit in the kitchen and have drinks and catch up. Lately will all the health things we have going on it's been more like once a month, but I love my beer.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Beer used to be my main man, but I've turned into a wine snob over the years and drink that more often.

Girls' night... haven't done one in years. I don't really have a group of ladies who are close enough to make it a regular thing.

classyNJ's picture

It started with 6. It's down to 2 every week and sometimes 4. Too bad we don't live closer to each other. It's literally wine, comfy clothes, bitching, snacking and SO serving us LOL

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Classy, I'd be there in drawstring-waist pants and a baggy tee!!! xoxo

Try your coffee with Godiva Chocolate Liqueur Smile it taste amazing. Its also good over ice cream with caramel as a desert or snack }:)
Nothing says welcome to the skids like a little Godiva in the AM.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dragonfly, I HAVE Godiva CL, but don't like it in my coffee. It's delicious in brownies or a flourless fudge cake!!

DH and I will be home this year so my workout will be cooking. When I was single, free, and disengaged my mom and I would walk Thanksgiving morning.

I am looking forward to cooking this year. I haven't cooked for Thanksgiving since 2013.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dani, I have never hosted Thanksgiving. My parents did (of course) and then my oldest brother took over. He smokes a tasty turkey!!!

DaniAM73's picture

It's just going to be me and DH. Both our parents live out of town. I know people probably think I am weird, but I look forward to it just being me and DH.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I WISH it was going to be just me and DH! I honestly do NOT feel like being around my b!tchster-in-laws. :O

DaniAM73's picture

We normally would go out of state and visit DH's parents. I asked him if we could stay home this year.

I know how you feel.

Fast metabolism means I don't really think about it, I eat until I'm not hungry, wait like an hour and then basically eat leftovers because I'm starving again lol. Like I'm not a stick (I eat enough calories to maintain an average weight normally) but last week I tried 2000 a day and to eat good... I dropped like 10 lbs... Which I really didn't need or want to lose... I actually want to gain a little bit.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Yeah, I hate ya... JK!

Seriously, any kind of condition that contributes to weight loss/gain is a pain.

ProbablyAlreadyInsane's picture

I almost wish it was a condition so I could find a way to fix it lol. My body just burns through food. Of course part of that could be the stressing and running around lol.

Besides don't feel too jealous. I got a mean case of dermatitis on my scalp, and stress makes it mad... Which is really hard to avoid as a SM! Lmao

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I don't need scalp dermatitis. I get itchy when I'm stressed/nervous and my head and back are the first things to flare up and itch.

Wish my body burned through food. I look at it and gain 5 pounds. Sigh...

moving_on_again's picture

I already lost 10-20 lbs. just from being stressed. I imagine that will continue until the custody case is done. Although, I haven't been stress puking as often! And I've had an appetite this week so far.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Moving_on, I can certainly relate to stress puking. Blech. Unhappily, I am a stress EATER. I'd give my eyeteeth to NOT be able to eat when stressed. I would be a bloody nervous wreck, but I wouldn't be overweight!

moving_on_again's picture

I need to lose more than that. I joke that I still have baby weight from DD, who is 11, but it's actually true. I breastfed for a whole year and barely lost any weight.

I don't know, it's hard to not be able to eat or puke when you are driving down the road. I also get low blood sugar really easily and shake. I hate it. Zero calorie Powerade has been helping me lately.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Ah, baby weight. A friend of mine is still trying to lose hers...and her daughter just started college.

I have the low blood sugar and shakes problem, too. Atkins shakes are a huge help to me.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Vanilla Atkins is my fave, followed by Dark Chocolate. The milk chocolate, mocha, and strawberry are all sh!t. IMO, of course.

There is another protein shake I like... Core something or other. Vanilla is my preference for that one, too. The Atkins peanut butter cups are pretty darn tasty. BUT...not if you nibble off the chocolate around the edges first. Sadly, I have to bite into the peanut butter to get the best flavor that's most like an actual Reese's.

moving_on_again's picture

Haha, I made myself sick on some Russel Stover's sugar free candy. Like puking for 18 hours. It was awful. Apparently my body doesn't like the sweeter malitol.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Sugar free candy is an oxymoron!! I cannot stand the taste of any of the artificial sweeteners. They taste like a mouthful of over-chemically-treated pool water.

Dovina's picture

I consider Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, heck any holiday is a free for all. Nibbling while cooking, nibbling off SO's plate, or anything ingested while standing up has no calories Wink Oh and wine after 8pm is also calorie free. So enjoy the holidays.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Dovina, I find the holidays stressful. Add being a stress eater and it's HE!!.

But I definitely like that "wine has no calories after 8pm". If only it worked... Biggrin
