A post on the light side
I'd do a poll but I don't know how.
What do you do for fun? Just for yourself, to relax, to relieve stress...
I'm a bit new here and I know many of you know each other very well but I just thought it would be nice for us all to share something personal that is fun and isn't about step-kids or husbands/boyfriends.

Isn't it fun to play make believe. I wish I knew how to play an instrument. I am sooo not musically challenged, although in the car and shower boy do I sound like I'm in concert (probably a free one for the alley cats, but a concert nonetheless).

giggle, giggle...
I'm a car singer too. I lmao, when I'm driving and see someone in the car next to me, just gettin-it. But the reality of it is...I make lots of people laugh !!! We should ride together sometime.

I too sing in the car. I knit in the winter - mostly hats and scarfs. I make the fuzzy, tied blankets in the winter and fall. I also blast the music when I am cleaning or just hanging out at home alone. I work from home I get more than the average amount of alone time.
I have so many things.
I absolutely love a good book. You know one of those Calgon readers that can take you away.
I love suduko and crossword puzzles.
I absolutely love a good game of scrabble with DH.
I love to take a walk in the fresh air.
I used to love to hit the gym. I am trying and needing so desperately to find this love again as I near 40 and am starting to get round and fluffy.
Also, I love to write even though my writings have been school related more than fun lately.

I completely forgot about
I completely forgot about suduko, my newest obsession!
Well, when I'm not running around ...
To some kid-related sporting event or concert/recital ... I enjoy golf, poker, target shooting, and scrap-booking. I also LOVE going to the spa (massage or facial) and I also love to go running. Great post!
it's so nice to read these
it's so nice to read these responses!
I'm a fine artist and photographer on the side and show my work a couple of times a year. I love to read guilty pleasure books like Dean Koontz, John Grisham, James Patterson, etc. I watch tons of movies with my F, I also scrapbook, and have an unhealthy obsession with shopping...
from my SD, the reason we're going through it all....:
o, btw, my dad and *northernsiren* are the best family a girl(and boy) could ever hope for. Thank you for helpping me through these hard times.
Writing is the easiest thing I can make time for
I Blog, write here, work on my play, research about five other projects.
To totally escape for a few hours I love going to films, but don't have that chance very often.
RETREATS are fabulous too especially at a certain TN cabin! I am also looking into forming one like the writer's retreat I attend every year that focuses on SMs because we so desperately need one. Also, I am taking another session of 5 pottery classes to make a set of theatre masks. Next I want to sign up for belly dancing, guitar, and voice again. Can only do one at a time (I sound like the kids and sports teams) I am also looking for mom/son/daughter classes to do something fun with my sons and BD 2. Hers is going to be mommy and me dance.
I absolutely love theatre and really need to find some creative space, and time to get back into it. It's so hard with four kids, especially when SD is one of them and BM isn't taking her more than three or four days a month.

For fun...
I love to read and ride my bike.
I am an adventure seeker and a random thinker so I need to see new places and experience new things to stay content. So even a bike ride exploring a trail I've never seen is an adventure to me.
I'm a 'Colorado Girl' so I love mountains and snow and all the fun things that go with living near the Rocky Mountains.
What about you semi?

In those rare moments of relaxation...
I read. I read and read and read. I love to read. When I can't read, I scrapbook a little, watch movies and tv and play the occasional computer game.
I've recently taken up mountain biking. It's great until I fall, which is often. I'm quite the bruised woman, but I always end up laughing every time I fall so I figure it can't be that bad.
I love to quilt. It makes me feel all domestic and womanly in a 19th century kind of way. However my stupid sewing machine is broken and I can't afford to fix it right now, so I'm hand stitching, which is fun for a little while, and then I lose patience and have to move on to something else. Needless to say, it might be 2020 before I finish my current project.
I LOVE music, but can't play a single stinking instrument. I hypothesize that I might be a little tone deaf. My husband concurs when he hears me sing. But miraculously I am fantastic in the car, as long as I'm by myself!
My Husband bought me a bike for Xmas a few.
years ago. I rode it for mmmmmmmm 1/4 of a mile, and my butt started hurting so bad, I rode that damn thing to our back garage, hung it up and I THINK it is still there, not sure... Bless his heart, he got it for me, because I asked for it...(what was I thinking???)
CG - I thought you were going to say my favorite thing to do is drink margarita's and play on a razor scooter....lol

Bigger seat!
I made my husband buy me the biggest seat they sold. I might look like a granny on the bike, but now my butt lasts a lot longer! However, the next day I still can't sit on anything hard

I play on the computer...otherwise...hike, backpack, ice climb, ski...anything outdoors and the more remote the better :-). It brings me peace. I can relate to Colorado Girl loving the mountains and snow... I'm absolutely the same! Winter is my favorite time of year.

Hee, hee!!! I love it!!!! I used to smoke...23 years...but finally quit during a whitewater kayak course :-). Seriously...I'm not kidding LOL! Still drink...and would gamble if given the opportunity! Skydiving...not for me...but I once had a boyfriend that did it for competition, over 1000 jumps...tried to get me to do it....NOOOOOOO WAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
i like to drink, wine especially
and run around having wine tastings and making money! (is that wrong?!)
really though i love to relax at home and watch tv, go to movies, play on the computer, cook, pilates, walk my doggie, fantasy football, shopping, especially for lip gloss...

Answering my own question
Much like Catch22 I'm a mountain climber, a world famous opera singer and a race car driver. Which really translates to: I work my way around the mountains of dog poop in the back yard, I sing off-key in the car (alone) and when I get up late I drive like a maniac to try and get to work on time!
For fun though I make fused glass, I have a kiln and a little shop in the basement. Also get great pleasure/relaxation from the 3 dogs that are the source of the mountains of poop mentioned above… it’s just hard to be stressed when there’s a cute little beagle in your lap, or our lab mix or the boxer mix… sometimes all three at once! The last couple of years we’ve started canning fruit, surprisingly fun and relaxing. A nice activity with F, sit and peel peaches or cut up strawberries for jam and just chat. We have A LOT of jam – does anyone want some jam?? There are also a lot of spontaneous back yard or front porch get togethers on my street that include plenty of wine and beer – that always works!
SoFrustrated – if you were anywhere in my area I’d invite you over to teach me how to quilt. I bought a sewing machine and REALLY want to do that but haven’t made the time yet. I would though if I had a good teacher around!
I don't know how good of a
I don't know how good of a teacher I'd be. I'm self taught - which basically means I'm a "free range" quilter - so I just grab different fabrics and make up patterns along the way. I've watched a few of those craft/quilt tv shows, and I'm totally lost! I call my latest project "stained glass" because I cut up all my old prom/formal dresses from way back when I actually had those type of events to attend. So I have all these wacky shaped pieces of jewel tone fabrics and I'm sewing them together anyway I can get them to lay flat. Then I'll sew black velvet ribbons on all the seams for the stained glass effect! So I don't think you need a teacher. Just grab some fabric and have fun with it.
Oh I want some jam!
Oh I want some jam! Actually...some fresh fruit would be even better! Our blueberries and cranberries (which is pretty much all we get) are already gone, and it's a long, long winter of no fresh produce...and old blueberries costing $10.00 a pint. Yep...a pint!!!
Okay Rae - I'll send some jam!
I looked at your bio, you definitely have a short growing season up there in Alaska. It could be a challenge getting glass jars of jam and canned pears packaged to make it all the way up there but if you really want I'll try!
OH man...you should see the
OH man...you should see the grin on my face!!! Yummy!!! You are a sweetheart! It's the one thing I miss living up here...fresh produce. I'm from the Southeast originally, and used to have a garden every year with fresh tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, etc..., and I had wild blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, apples, pears...etc... Up here we get the blueberries and cranberries, but everything else is shipped from Seattle and south, so that by the time it gets here it's old and expensive! We do grow good, HUGE winter crops...but for the most part...9 months of the year..nothing. One of these days I'm going to have a greenhouse :-).
I sure miss the jam making!
OH and I can send you some Alaska stuff...Moose nuggets, bear spray, salmon jerky, eskimo ice cream :-)....jk...but there are some neat things up here...the best being the fresh salmon if you like fish.
