Opinions needed on SS Weird statement

SS16 for the last few years will make general Statements saying he does not trust anyone. When I ask him why this is he never gives a good reason. I ask him if he trusts me and he says no but not to take it personally as he does not trust anyone. When I ask if I've ever did anything to my him to not trust me he says no BUT you could. Same goes for DH and everyone else. 
 

What could cause a 16 to feel he can't trust anyone?

Who knows why he'd say this.  But, I think it's a good sign that he would talk to you about it and speaks well of your relationship.  I'd say something like, "Really? I wonder why?" "I've felt like that sometimes", and "That's intetesting" ie, anything to draw him out without putting him on the spot.  It seems like he's wanting to express something.

This is a brainless "look at me" statement IMHO.

He is blathering, Or he is parroting something he hears regularly from friends or family. Do not give him attention on this drivel.

My only response to him would be "Really?  What orifice of your body did you pull that  comment out of?" Then laugn and shake your head.
