O/T Family involvement in our issues
Anytime DH and I have a fight (not small bickers... but of the "big fight" variety) DH vents to SIL (who basically raised him, so she is somewhat of a monster in law to me).

Romantic dates turned awkward and other ramblings.
DH and I hadn't gone on a date in forever and we went on 2 this week.
We used a gift card from Christmas, finally, at a nice restaurant last night.
Of course, at one point, the topic goes from the menu to his son to BM. At pick up the other day BM got in DH's face, after arguing about her scheduling something (again) on his time, and she said "I do what I want with MY F*CKIN KIDS."

O/T Self Care: appearance edition
I've been feeling a little blah and unsexy for... well... several months.
I replaced some old makeup and ended up buying bb cream. I never usually wear face makeup but I was pleasantly surprised. I feel brighter. It is the covergirl matte brand, great for my combination skin.
I have also gone back to the lean cuisine, salad or chobani yogurts for lunch, trying to cut calories ... because summer doesn't wait for me to stop eating carbs, as I learned last year. Portion control makes me feel better, too.

Parenting partnerships and BM's trashy chic decor.
The several days we had the skids for spring break was so tiring and downright bad. It is wonderful having a quiet house again.

BM needs a course on adulting 101
DH has skids for half of school vaca.
SD had a tentative plan for a playdate today with a school friend at BM's and then a sleepover at BM's (scheduled on HIS time, but not even a hill to die on for us at this point... nothing new, plus DH has never met the kid's parents and BM has, so it is what it is).
Yesterday DH calls BM in the afternoon for the "game plan." She "doesn't know yet," tells him to call back a little later on.

SD Chronicles: Where's my present?
5 days with skids begins today.
I just spoke with SD on the phone.
SD: "When will we open our Easter baskets?"
Me: "Put dad on the phone again quick I need to remind him about an appointment."
DH: "What's up?"
Me: "She didn't forget about Easter. I guess I will grab something on my way home."
DH: "Shit. ok, thanks."
And the 'parents' of the year award goes to..........
ME AND DH!

Advice from the heart for my dear friend.
Before I ever got involved with a man with kids - I simply had no idea what it entailed. Lately, I see my friend (with no kids of her own), struggling in her (semi new) relationship with a man with a son, and a very young, very in and out of the child's life BM. This blog post is sort of an outline of the things I would love to tell her, but haven't, yet.
I believe in order to remain sane and positive in step life, one needs to have an extremely healthy sense of self. Good self esteem.

DH would lose his head if it wasn't screwed on
He loses everything. Keys, wallets, phones, clothing items, dog leashes, library books and even my first engagement ring (long story)... you name it... he's lost it.
He lost his phone sometime between Easter service (very large event, stadium style seating) and our visits to family (2 houses).
NO - he did not pawn it to buy drugs, for those who will leap to that conclusion. I was with him all day long. He is clean and sober. He realized it was lost and panicked.

There ARE good people in this world, and other positive thoughts.
DH and SS came up to visit me at work today on lunch. As I walked out, I noticed the back light of my car was smashed and there was significant back end damage. I could feel the tears coming when around the corner came a woman, about my age. She told me she was waiting for the person who she had hit and then she called the police to file a report. I thanked her for being such a good person and waiting. DH, SS and I had to cut our lunch break visit short, but at least I didn't have to shell out money we don't have to fix my car. There ARE good people in this world.
O/T what do you all make of North Korea's threats?
I've had a lot of monotonous work to get done at the office, so when I take sanity breaks to read the news this is a topic that I am continuously seeing.
I don't quite understand the level of "threat" we face. I know North Korea is very small - I believe the size of New Hampshire? Why the obsession with nuclear weapons - what are these people preparing for?
Apparently, today they are planning to conduct another "test."
