Head Lice and Awful BM

belle_27's picture

So my SD 7 has been over since Tuesday and she had just gotten back from camping with her BM and when we got her she seriously had dread locks in her hair, like it was so awful i felt so sorry for her when we had to brush it all out and she was in tears, her hair is almost at the bottom of her hair and its prety thick..

FDH gets a txt message after 6 days of SD being here and goes "SD has been around kids with nits when we went camping, have to give her a treatment before she steos foot back to my house" ( 2 hours before so was due back home)

seriously this got me SOO angry what kind of mum does that! as if she didnt know about this from her being at our house this whole time!! poor SD had a melt down feeling embrassed that she has had to sit through hours of hair brushing and now a head lice treatment with the tiny comb...

i think BM does this just because she wants to be nasty! when i become a parent in the future i was never want my daughter to feel like that ever..

Most parents wouldnt want thier daughter to feel like that but some parents will make their children feel like crap to hurt the other parent.

My experience:
In mid-Nov, DH picks SD11 up from her BM's. They walk in and I say: SD brush your hair, change your shirt, we're getting ready to go somewhere. She walks around the house (including laundry basket full of clean clothes) brushing her hair, changes shirt and... about 1/2 hour after she arrives BM calls to tell us that they (BM AND HER BS) have lice and we should check SD. Guess what we find?!?!?!

We get the stuff ($30), comb through her hair for 3 hours, get TONS of bugs out, spray furniture, remove toys, bleach brushes... Ask SD if her BM knew about the bugs before she came over, SD says BM knew about the bugs in BM and her BS's hair, but didn't check SD's hair. The next day, she goes with BM and gets her hair chopped off.

SD comes for another weekend visit and I notice scratching so I check SD head... more bugs. I call BM and send SD home to get it fixed.

SD comes back half way through Christmas Break and I randomly search her hair.... Guess what I find? Yup, more bugs. I call BM and say, "more bugs, come get SD". BM in shock, can't figure out where they came from. SD goes back, and I clean everything AGAIN.

BM ends up telling everyone that SD kept getting lice from our house because I'm the one finding them... No one here got lice but SD and they ALL had it at BM's house. SD's first batch of bugs was a LOT of bugs. Found 20 falling out as we were combing medicine in. No clue how many fell out in the rinse, but saw around 40 BIG bugs. Combing her hair got us around 100 nits and a couple of big bugs that didn't die with the medicine. She had it so BAD the first time that there was no way it was gonna get cleaned up at BM's house with just one application of medicine.

Ended up not seeing SD for about a month because BM refused to send her until they were SURE that she didn't have anymore bugs.

All in all, we missed SD, but were glad we weren't having to clean up after more bugs a fourth time. SD said that they did a bug treatment right before she came back to 'make sure' she didn't have any bugs and I searched her hair when she got here.

It was a pain, but I KNOW SD didn't get her bugs here any of the times that they were found.

yeah this is the 3rd round we have had so far with this! its just horrible that BM doesnt even care, she thinks its a big joke and we have to deal with it... just some nasty chore to wreck our weekend...

the first time we did her hair i almost was sick, so many bugs and eggs i even put a treatment in my own hair because i was sure i would get it as well!

but the BM know they have sending on the kids in that state and at the end of the day they are the ones who look like bad parents.. soooo angry

i'll never understand how bm's are so neglectful to their own kids. My ss comes every summer with massive sunburn on back and shoulders once a year and when Fall hits, he comes with massive poison ivy on his face which requires steroids cuz she let it go all week. UNBELIEVABLE!

thats excatly my point! how on earth as a mother you can send kids off and not care? its disgusting..

i know she does it to get a rise our of FDH, but he is sooo laid back he just deals with it and says nothing and i think that bugs (haha bugs) her the most that he doesnt respond and just takes the mature high road!

even though i am going nuts i dont want to see that what she does gets to me as well
