Inconsiderate Kids!
We had another counseling session after a grueling two weeks between sessions. There's a stand-off between us, but I'm coming to the conclusion that BM is not the only problem in step-hell --- teaching children to be CONSIDERATE is the other wild elephant in the room!
My kid doesn't disrespect others. He's rather snarky/smart-mouthed, but he is able to FEEL how another person might feel. He has manners and does nice things for others. Since an early age, we have talked a lot about other people's feelings... and he really hates injustice committed against others. You can't imagine how pissed he was when he found out that MLK was assassinated... his normally sweet disposition was violent mixed with sad as he talked about the killers.
Anyway, SO's kids hardly have consideration. Loudness, intrusiveness, no shame, etc. rule the day! Yeah, I know, they get it from their mama...however, THIS is where I fault SO. He doesn't demand considerate behavior from his children. He hasn't taught the kids how to be considerate - to think about how another might feel. He doesn't require that as a way of dealing with other people you have to live with and those lessons would solve at least half of our problems.
Does skid behavior all come down to consideration? Being considerate of other people's property, space, feelings, etc.?

Perhaps your SO views this as a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Too bad. What a shame you have to live with a badly raised child.

My SD8 lives with me, DH and DD10 on a full time basis. SD8's BM disappeared, completely, about 6 years ago. So, I am the only mother SD8 has ever known. I actually love this little girl. Maybe it is because I got her at an early age, and I get a lot of support from DH. Your SD is lucky to have someone like you who cares enough about her to take care of her in your home. The day will come when she realizes what she owes you. When that happens, I'll bet your sacrifices will be worth it. Keep us posted.
