Getting Closer to Medicating SD5

Learning to Stepparent's picture

So I had another discussion with DH yesterday about putting SD5 on medication for her ADHD. It wasn't something I entered into lightly or have been pushing for from the beginning. She is in kindergarten this year and academically is doing well though we are starting to have issues with behavior and attention span. Basically, she needs constant reminders of what she is supposed to be doing. It's not exactly a problem yet but it is an issue that her teacher is trying to work on and I anticipate this only getting worse as time goes on.

So, we made homemade pizzas for dinner tonight. It's something everybody likes to do and we do it a few times a year. I get everybodys preferred toppings together and we all get to build out own. I got the kids started making their pizzas and was chatting with DH in the bedroom. Now, after the 2 hour pissing match with SD5 a few days ago over eating cheese I fully expected her to refuse any cheese on her pizza. Lo and behold, I walk out of the bedroom to find three large pieces of fresh mozzerrella cheese on her pizza.

GGRRRRRRRRR.......fake picky eating

Ok, so SD5 does this thing where she will pretend to not like food I know she does. Cheese is a big one. She will eat cheese on pizza, on cheeseburgers, she will eat cheese sticks, lasagna, pasta with parm on it. Hell, one time the kid was eating chunks of white cheddar dipped in honey to the point that we had to cut her off because she was going to eat it all and ruin her dinner.

I guess I'm not the only one with this issue

I'm a member of another message board, not blended family related at all, and I saw a thread this morning where a mom was asking how to get her 6 year old to bundle up in the winter time. I gather she lives in an area that gets a real winter. It seems the child did not want to wear their winter coat and hat and such when going to school. I laughed because I posted a thread here awhile back commenting on the same issue I have with SD5.

O/T Cookie Baking

I made cookies today!!!!!! I have always been absolutely terrible at cookies. I couldn't ever get them right. They are either too thin and spread way out on the pan and turn into one giant cookie or they are touch from too much flour or they are hard because I baked them too long or whatever.

But today....I MADE COOKIES!!!!! They taste good and they even LOOK like cookies.

It's a personal triumph and I am putting this down as a win.

FOC .....again

Well, DH heard back from the FOC about the request for a child support review and despite the fact that BM has a new, seems to be full time, job and SD has been diagnosed with special needs and is therefore in therapy twice a week which racks up the medical bills fast apparently we do not qualify for a child support review as it has been less than 3 years since the last order was entered.

PLEASE let this work!!!!

So DH and I haven't filed our taxes yet because we were waiting on the 1099 from daycare. The daycare provider is really slow about things like this. BM had called DH awhile back and asked who was claiming SD this year and DH told her we are claiming her since she lives with us. Today, BM called again and tried to offer to give us some of the money from her tax return if he let her claim SD. So I furiously got all our tax documents together and sort of guessed how much we paid for daycare so my mom can file our taxes today.

DH is Being Proactive!!!!

DH filled out the child support modification paperwork and faxed it in today. All by himself!!!! With minimal reminding from me!!!!!

I am shocked and so very proud. Now we get to wait and see what happens next.

At least the scream call from BM is at least a few days away.
