I am a stepmother. My husband raised his daughter on his own since the child was an infant. Mother's Day is difficult for more reasons than one. We moved to a new state after my husband's retirement. Daughter is in college and comes "home" for breaks. She comes in and she leaves to visit her mother. Then she comes back and leaves to go back to school. She stays with us over the summer. She complains about being bored and she implies that she needs services rendered by dropping hints like... I need a haircut, I need new clothes, and so on and so forth.
