Just like that we're back in high school

In August DH and I went to a get together with a very good friend of mine and a bunch of her friends. They all went to HS with DH and BM. I know a few of them both from HS years and other occasions, birthday parties and fund raisers.

We had a lovely evening, lots of laughs and new friendships formed. Pictures were posted and lots of likes were given.

O/T- my fur baby died in my arms this morning.

My elderly Devon Rex (cat) boy died in my arms this morning. He was about 15 years old and he’d had a good long life.

He was always more dog like than cat like, he’d fetch and follow me around. He was always under my feet and usually covered in flour or crumbs because he’d stand under me as I cooked or baked.

This morning as usual he was snuggled up with me. He was like a living teddy bear and would sleep in my arms.

Funerals

The blog on the ex coming to the funeral brought up something that happened. I’m interested in your thoughts.

BMs mother and stepfather are not doing well. They are in their late 70s, refuse to quit smoking and SD is worried one or both of them will be gone soon.

OT- Hug the ones you love, forgive the ones you don’t.

You may have heard about the devastating bus crash involving the Humboldt  Broncos hockey team. This has hit very close to home for us.

15 were killed and 14 were injured (some grievously), there were 29 people on the bus including the driver who was killed. Everyone on that bus was killed or injured. As I said, this has hit home for us, we are a hockey family. These were 16 - 21 year old boys who were on their way to a playoff hockey game. Most of them were living away from home with billet families, chasing their dreams of professional hockey.

O/T- great finds

So we just bought a new house and I’ve been trying to decorate and get furniture on a budget. I think I’ve done really well!

I hit the second hand stores, the junk yards, FB market place and Kijiji on a regular basis.
My very best find was last weekend. We have a junk place here, you really have to pick through stuff but once in a while there’s a great find.

I found a Bron Coucke mandolin in perfect shape for $5! I almost died when I looked it up and it’s worth $400!!

I tried it today and it works great, DH wants to sell it. Lol.

O/T- lots of divorces

notsobad's picture

A large number of our friends and acquaintances are getting divorced. Five couples that we know are separated and two are in counselling deciding if they want to stay married.

They are all in their late 40s, early 50s and they are all first marriages. Their kids grew up and they decided they didn't want to be married anymore.

I'm finding it very surprising. One couple in particular are a shock. I really thought that they had a great relationship but apparently not.

Old wedding rings, what to do with them?

The other blog got me to wondering.

What did you do with your old wedding/engagement rings? What did DH do with his?

Mine are in a box in my underwear drawer, I'm not sure what to do with them. I don't have daughters and I'm not sure my son would want them.

DH's ring broke about 10 years into his first marriage and he never replaced it. He doesn't even know what happened to the broken band, BM probably sold it for the gold.
