School is back in session, which means that SD13 is in her last year of middle school. (Just 4 more years to save up to pay for college...) My oldest two BD's started pre-school too.

SD is already complaining about how boring her Art class is. She needs to be challenged, and unfortunately I don't think she can find it in middle school. And there are no good private schools around here. (She doesn't want to go to one in any case, because she'd rather be with her friends. I think that might be the right decision for her, actually) At least she likes most of her teachers. Going to my first open house for her tonight. I wasn't sure about going, but I think I'm ready for it. Still a little nervous.

The twins are enjoying pre-school at least. I took off work last Monday so I could drop them off with DH on their first day. Wish I had time to pick them up from school, but at least their dad can do that.

Hopefully this school year goes well. Can't believe there'll be a high schooler in the house next year, though.

Oh Hon.... SD is 13 - she has not interest in anything but her friends and boys, thus everything will be boring, it's a normal stage of life. It all depends on how DH will handle it, not you, DH.

Yes she might not like art or science, but that does not mean she can fail the subject, if she does poorly, consequences should follow, summer school, no electronics to chat with your friends, you can use the time studying...

Hopefull you are not contributing to saving for college, you have your own kids to start saving for, DH and BM can sort out SD, do not take on this responsibility, you will be disappointed.

She needs to be challenged? Give her extra homework- education doesn't just happen in school.

This. Or recommend an academic team. Or encourage her to enjoy the boring year because high school, if it's anything like it is here, will put her in classes that are challenging/based on her abilities.

Middle school education can be boring, anyway, especially art. It seems like middle school art is heavily focused on art history and styles, with an emphasis on mimicking those styles. It's less about creativity and more about technical skill.
