Naming our daughter.....

skye22's picture

Okay so I know this isn't really about stepparenting but things have been going pretty smooth in that arena lately (thank god)! But I do need advice on another matter.......
I was wanting an honest opinion about naming my daughter after me (well in a way). My name is Nicole. And I had the idea to name her Nicolette. Does this sound cheesy? And my husbands name is Shawn. So I thought it would be cool to name her Nicolette Shawna. But I do have some reservations about it. I like the idea but need some thoughts. Does it sound weird?

I like Nicolette, but not too crazy about Shawna...have you thought about dropping the "a" and just doing Shawn? I have a female friend named Shawn.

I should ask my hubby if he likes that. Its a good idea...... I like it but I don't know what he will say. Thanks

We first had talked of Colette Shawna. But I liked Nicolette better. I had though of reversing it so that Shawna was first but the hubby said no Smile But I really do appreciate your thoughts. I guess what I'm really hung up on is if we name her this does is sound egocentric on my part? I mena I know men have j.r's and all but I just don't want it to seem snotty, you know what I mean?

I think it's always special when children have a family name - whether it's from their mother, father or grandparents, I think it's great.

Nicola? Or Chandra/Shawndra? Shawneen is an Irish take on Shawn. HTH.
