would you pluck/shave your daughters eyebrows?
it was our weekend to have sd6 and i noticed that her eyebrows were thinner and I was like wtf! I asked her what happened and she told me that her mom SHAVED them (just at the ends so they werent so thick, its not like they were thick anyway!) so she could be 'cute'! I was pissed. This girl is only SIX YEARS OLD!? She doesnt even need her eyebrows to be plucked or anything! fdh was mad too. BM is just too much sometimes.

I think a unibrow is a different story. That is something that she can be teased about. Kinda like my mom letting me shave my legs when I was 9, I was HARRY. And being teased. It is too young for vanity, but not to young to help your kids stay out of emotional turmoil. Kids are cruel.

I think age 6 is a bit young
I think age 6 is a bit young for that! I unfortunately was the kid with the unibrow growing up. I think I was 12 or 13 when my mom showed me how to pluck my eyebrows. SD5 is definately going to have this problem! FDH is half mexican, and has dark hair EVERYWHERE! And sadly he passed his genes onto SD5. I can already see she will have eyebrow problems, and thick hair on her upper back. I will let BM handle this...I think 6 is too young, but if BM does anything at that age fine...it's her kid she's traumatizing!

I have to take up for her
I have to take up for her mother here...I'm part italian/german and my hair is nearly black and I have LOTS of hair. my eyebrows were SO dark and SO dense when i was a kid I was constantly made fun of by EVERYONE for being a hairy little critter.
I begged my mom from as young as 1st grade to pluck, wax,or shave my eyebrows and she refused. I had to endure that ridicule til i was a teen. To this day, I'm still self conscious about it.
I think if the girls giant eyebrows were hurting her self esteem...mom was absolutely right in doing what she did.

I totally feel ya BBB!!
I totally feel ya BBB!! Everyone said if Brooke Shields (think Blue Lagoon age, with the thick eye brows) and Jim's Dad from American Pie ever had a kid it would of had my eyebrows! My mom let me take care of the unibrow pretty early, but wouldn't let me touch the rest of my eyebrows until I went to college! I swear it took a weed-eater the first time to clean up that mess!
"Live well, Love much, Laugh often."
Uhoh.........I'm so in
Uhoh.........I'm so in trouble by you guys.
Look, I have a eyebrow thing. I cannot STAND to see a unibrow. I pluck mine like crazy, pluck or shave DS 14's, DH has hardley any hair anywhere so he's good..........but.........don't kill me.........my two year old had some fuzz that was creating a unibrow. I didn't pluck or shave, just used a electric thing (not a razor, like a electric trimmer or something...IDK, Juice got it for me) and fixed her up. She's very girly though. She puts on make up with me every day, we do our hair, we wear perfume, we brush our teeth and shower together, we pick out cute outfits, etc. Soooooo.....I'm guilty.
And she's only 2. Well, 3 in August.
If Juice and I split and the SM was mad about what I do with my daughter I'd tell her to bad, so sad.
I'm sorry, I don't want you to be mad at me, but I really would. She's my daughter and I'll do her unibrow what I wish. LOL
See, I agree with this. I
See, I agree with this.
I think sometimes at SM's we gotta realize, it's their kid.
Cuz I know there have been many things stepmoms on here have complained about that I wouldn't DARE complain about Gasolina. At the end of the day, it's still her kid.
When I have kids, I don't want someone telling me I shouldn't put make up on my kid, or cut her hair, or pluck her eyebrows.
Who says I shouldn't? YOU? Well, who are YOU?
That's what I'd say to them.

I agree too. If it is something like a unibrow... I agree. And at the end of the day, it is HER kid. I wouldn't shape my 6 year olds eyebrows... but who I am to tell someone else NOT to?

I once had a mom who asked
I once had a mom who asked me to pluck her daughter's eyebrows while the daughter was under anesthesia for surgery. I did it without hesitating even though the kid was only like 7 bc DAMN she needed it BIG TIME. Took me like 10 minutes to pluck that shit after surgery before she woke up.

I was like, "um...I'm not really qualified to determine if an STD is present...I really don't wanna look at your bf's junk...sorry."
oh yeah...strange requests 'round here

I can totally see your point
I can totally see your point on this collegemommy...I think the only thing keeping me from feeling the same way is all the trauma i went through as a kid with massively unattractive brows. If I wouldn't have gone through that mess for so many years, I would absolutely feel the same way that you do about it.
As a SM though, I wouldn't say a word about feeling that way to BM or my DH...i wouldn't feel it's my place to speak on it.

That's just it too. I have
That's just it too. I have dark hair. I had hairy legs as a kid. This is where I am on the fence with this one. If it is for the sake of not being teased... I say go for it. If it is just plain and simply vanity, I am not so sure. I wouldn't do it, but I wouldn't be MAD at someone else for doing it. Indifferent I suppose.
BM bleached SS's hair this summer. I was a little upset about that because he is trying to grow it out, and she totally damaged it. He is only 6. I think that is too young to be putting toxins like that in to their hair. I didn't say anything though, because... well, I am not the mom. It bothered me the most because she NEVER EVER EVER EVER takes care of his hair cuts or anything like that. I do it. I have given this boy every single hair cut he has ever gotten with the exception of his very first one. She just wants him to look more like her because her hair is lighter, and his is getting dark like DH's.

I kinda see your point, but
I kinda see your point, but I just don't see the purpose of subjecting a kid to ridicule when it would take a couple minutes to pluck a few stray hairs...
Like, kids are going to be picked on for things they CANT control, might as well limit the things they will be picked on that they CAN fix.

I know Collegemommy.
I know Collegemommy.
But.......and here's where my crazy BM parts show......I want my daughter to be beautiful and fit in. I want her to be a cheer leader, I want her to be georgus inside and out!
I'm very big on appearance and I want her to be also. I fix my hair and do make up nearly every single day. Unless I'm super sick or something I try to look great. It makes ME feel good. I don't do it to fit in, I do it because I like to. My mom was the same way and still is and is georgus.
It makes me feel good when I look good. I'm not teaching my daughter that she has to look good to feel good, but that by looking good it may make you feel better and have a better sense of self worth and self esteem. Let's face it, self esteem is a big part of a person. I've always had very high self esteem and I wish that for my girl to.
My mom ALWAYS tells me even
My mom ALWAYS tells me even when I feel like to crap to get up, get dressed and put on some lipstick because it will make me feel better if I think I look better. She's right too. And I totally get what you're saying Jen.
I am the same way. Even when
I am the same way. Even when I am sick, I have to get up and shower and get dressed. It is a mental thing with me. It makes me feel better. I tell BM this all of the time when she is depressed. "go get showered and dressed, clean your house, it will make you feel better!"

It really is the oddest
It really is the oddest thing, but it does make you feel so much better!
Lazing around the house all the time brings you down. Since I'm not working I have to stay on top of myself about getting up and getting ready, even if I'm not going anywhere! It makes me feel better.
She probably screamed bloody
She probably screamed bloody murder when her mom tried to do it. LOL
I think I could live with
I think I could live with the shaving but would object to waxing or tweezing at that age. Putting your child through pain for the sake of vanity just is NOT cool. But, if a BM can have her kid's hair any way she wants it, why not the eyebrows? My mom decided when I was 5 that she was tired of brushing my long hair and cut it super short. I looked like a boy. People who look at my childhood pictures today point that out (so fun!). I didn't want to look like a boy, and I didn't want short hair. But that was my mom's right.
