Not step related!! My ex wants to make me an offer on back child support!!
He text today. He wants to meet up to discuss a possible payoff option towards the $40k he owes in back child support!! He says he contacted the state and they told him he could discuss with me.
My question is can this be legal? I would think he would have to draw up some type of legal paperwork so that he'd get credit. I'm guessing he's going to offer me $5000 upfront if I "forget" about the back child support!!
Has anyone done this before? I don't know what benefit to me this would be!! BD17 nearly 18 and I've already paid the cost of raising her alone. I just assume continue receiving $194 per month for the rest of my life!! LOL I just received child support documentation that said child support payments will not cease when said child is 18 but will continue until full balance is paid!!
Any thoughts??

Unless there are other issues
Unless there are other issues we do not know about...Do NOT settle for $5000.00 dollars if he owes you $40000! You would come out much better at the $194.00 a month for life. lol.
My kids are 25 and 21. I will still be getting CS when my kids are old. lol. It trickles in and will for along long time.
I was guessing on the $5000
I was guessing on the $5000 but I bet i'm not far off!! I figured $194 extra per month for the rest of my life doesn't sound bad! That can be "me" money!!
Thanks!!
I wouldnt settle. He sure
I wouldnt settle. He sure didnt care that you were paying for the cost to raise your daughter alone... why should you cut him any slack?
What if he hit the lotto and you could have gotten the back CS? LOL
Don't settle unless it is 3/4
Don't settle unless it is 3/4 of the debt...If he can pay that off, great. But, I doubt it. Invest it if he can pay that amount for college. Odds are good your kid won't get much financial aid anyway. Son's father was deceased and he got nothing. Reason is that I got re-married and they put both of mine and DH's income into effect. Don't use that as your guide. It is a reason to not get married though.
Do not settle. $194.00 a
Do not settle. $194.00 a month & he's 40,000.00 behind. Tell him you already loaned him the money by supporting your child alone. You look forward to the payments, even if they come out of his SS check }:)
My DS's deadbeat called me
My DS's deadbeat called me once about settling the arrears due. He wanted to know if I would take $15,000 for the arrears of about $25,000. I asked how he was going to get that money and he said they would get a loan against their house to pay it. I said I would be willing to think about it. Then I never heard anything from him.
I finally got a hold of him and he told me some cock and bull story about them not being able to qualify for a loan. I say cock and bull because I think the REAL story is that his wife said no way in hell!
They ended up selling their house and buying another in a way cheaper area but he never bothered to try to settle then...not exactly sure what his whole point was. Maybe he was planning on leaving his wife and figured he'd saddle her with his CS arrears that way...?
