OT - Banterama
Growing up, I was a tomboy and a jock. I didn't go to parties, didn't drink, and was never part of a clique (unless jocks are a clique).
Apparently, you're never too old to reinvent yourself. Can someone tell me where I can buy a Pink Ladies jacket? At 52, I'm joining the dark side. Move over, Rizzo and Darth!!

It's true! I think every
It's true! I think every cell in our body has died and been replaced every 7 years, including our brain cells. We are constantly re-making ourselves - our memories and knowledge are being replicated as we speak!
It sounds crazy, but I find it quite freeing. Limitless possibilities. I remember in my 20s dressing up to go clubbing and seriously choosing a persona to don as well. I read a book, gosh, I wish I remembered the name, with all kinds of ideas about how to be comfortable in social gatherings, and that was one idea - to 'be' different characters. I used to be so shy, but after an evening of pretending I was Steven Tyler from Aerosmith dancing the night away... well, I had a blast. Helped me develop my sense of humour too, just seeing how wacky I could get with what I said before someone commented on it.
Tastebuds regenerate
Tastebuds regenerate completely every 7 years. I used to loathe cilantro, Coke, sour cream, red wine, and (gulp) CHOCOLATE. :O
chocolate??????????? wow.....
chocolate???????????
wow...... i used to hate strawberries as a kid - that changed for me right around 14. unfortunately nothing else did even tho' i try "hated" foods from time to time. most of my food issues are not with flavor, but texture - damn 'taurus combined with hsp' that i am!!!
Yes, Tuff. Chocolate.
Yes, Tuff. Chocolate. Horrifying, isn't it??

I had a pair of fishnets once - they weren't strong enough to withstand being ripped apart by DH on a mission. }:)
No black ones with hot pink
No black ones with hot pink script?
Just ONE pair?? I have some....fishnet lingerie and a dozen pairs of stockings in black, white, and red.
LOL!! Rock that pink jacket!
LOL!! Rock that pink jacket! I was a nightmare child and a total tomboy. In my home country, we have a huge yearly festival with rides, floats etc. One year, when I was 14, they brought in these new jet skis to hire out. My mate and I jumped on 1 each and just took off. Neither of us knew how to ride one..but we had ridden mororbikes..so just gunned it out towards the ocean. We sped to the port and chased eachother in and out of cruise liners.
When we got back there was a crowd waiting at the dock..including my Dad with a wooden stick and death stares from the operator. I turned around and took off again. My mate wasnt so lucky..the operator jumped on hers and chased me back in. I got a lovely whacking from that stick in front of everyone..but it was sooo worth it!
Next day Dad told Mum to teach me how to be a lady, burn all my jeans and sent us out to buy skirts and dresses. That did not work. However, now, at 52...im discovering that I actually love dresses now..and make up..and oh my lord..the hairdressers..and manicures..lol!!
IslandGal, I'm certain my Mom
IslandGal, I'm certain my Mom despaired of ever turning me into a lady. She was very much a Southern lady with 2 ladylike daughters, 2 manly sons, and one dirty, scabby, bruised up, Daddy's Girl tomboy.
She was QUITE relieved when, at 17, o started making skirts and dresses and looking at high heels and not just sports stuff!
LOL! My Mum is a total
LOL! My Mum is a total lady..loves dressing up and socialising. I hated dressing up. Grew up with 5 sisters and 1 bro. 3 sisters total ladies..2 of us tomboys. It used to drive my Dad crazy. My other tomboy sis and I are now completely independent and both believe in being self sufficient..so grow own veges..herbs etc. The ladies in our famz are happily married...love socialising and dressing up..just like our Mom.
Now that I've rediscovered my feminine side, Mums having a ball with me going clothes shopping and doing girlly things together..not to mention my 3 Sons are also getting a kick out of it..after seeing me live in jeans and pants most of their lives..lol!
Gads, I loathed dressing up
Gads, I loathed dressing up and socializing. To me, having company sucked something fierce because I couldn't help Dad fix the car!!
Yay, that means there is hope
Yay, that means there is hope for my DD yet! She's almost 14 and HATES anything girly...dresses, makeup, anything pink. I'm hoping when she discovers boys that she might care more about her hair and looking pretty. Right now she loves gym shorts and Converse and likes her hair in a pixie cut. I'm a real girly girl so I can't relate, but you ladies have given me hope that she may just be a late bloomer.
Oh, I loathed pink!!! I had
Oh, I loathed pink!!! I had short, spiked hair during track season and went sports shoes every 2-3 months.
I still wear Converse...including pink ones!
Oh I'm not knocking converse,
Oh I'm not knocking converse, I wear them too, but I'm hoping eventually it won't be *all* she wears
Just J, I never thought
Just J, I never thought that!! I wasn't into heels until my early 20s.
I used to love heels. I had
I used to love heels. I had so many pairs it was almost a sickness. But that was when I had an office job. These days I'm a restaurant manager so it's lovely black nonslip shoes every day, and flip flops at home until it gets cold (well as cold as it gets in CA). Then I'm living in converse and uggs and the heels only come out on date nights. Boo.
I still love heels. And flip
I still love heels. And flip flops!
