Count Down Has Begun

brutallyhonest's picture

I don't blog all that often, mostly just read and take heart in knowing I'm not alone. My life is much different from the early years of EOW hell and guilt parenting. After the "great-flunking-school-drama" of nearly 3 years ago, SD and BM did their best to cut BF (and thankfully by proxy me) from SD's life. Years of catering, coddling, guilt-parenting finally caught up with SD and BF. When it was time to do some tough love concerning school and grades, she didn’t respect BF or his authority and instead cut him out of her life except for gifts and braces.

Helicopter Parents

Has anyone else read this article in Time magazine about helicopter parents? http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1940395-3,00.html. Crayon this one is right up your alley, girl.

It isn't completely step-related, but I am willing to bet we will all see a little of DH or BM in the article. For instance I wonder why my SD16.5 can't self-entertain.....

The Yo-Yo

Yesterday I blogged about the eye of the hurricane. Today I'm feeling more like a yo-yo. SD16.5 called this morning and canceled lunch with BF. So after 24 hours of wondering which new way my life was going to suck, instead SD16.5 has stayed away. We don't know what she wanted. Conversation lasted less than a minute between BF and SD.

Another endorsement for reading Stepmonster!!

Fellow steptalkers, I finally decided to read Stepmonster by Wednesday Martin.

I know others have recommended it, but I never got around to readying it and I've read dozens of other step-parenting books and articles over the years that were of little to no help. And I usually just ended up feeling worse. So I wondered if I really wanted to read yet another unhelpful book. I mean how many times do I need to be told its is all about the kids and I'm a witch for intruding into their lives. Boy was I wrong. This book is awesome!

Guess who finally showed up for party #4?

MIL insisted on having yet another attempt at a party for SD16 (she was a no-show for the first 3). I could think of nothing I wanted to do more than spend a 4th straight weekend with the inlaws... not. On a side note, BIL and SIL did not get the cancellation call in time last weekend and so wasted a trip out for the 3rd b-day cancellation.
