The SKIDS have flown the coop!
With all the SD17 drama I was wondering if this would end up happening. School starts in 2 days and SD17 has not been to our house this summer except for 1 time she had to come for a dental appointment. She ended up puking on her bedding and leaving it a full day and telling me about it after she left (see my blog about the gross situation!). DH had not heard from SD17 or BM about what the plan was for school as last year the SD17 and SD18 were week on week off. He asked and SD17 replied back with "I'm staying with BM senior year since this is where my job is" and "I'll come and visit as often as I can".
When I heard that I told DH she'll never come visit, just as she never came during the summer even though she had well over a month in between the dental appointment and when she started her new job. Well DH then told me soon after that she was going to stop by this week after school. The whole leftover vomit situation was never addressed with her by DH (other than me calling her to figure out what was going on and telling her that it was rude) because he wanted to do it in person. When I asked him if he was going to address it he said basically no because she's just going to be a random visitor and he didn't want her first visit to be him yelling at her. I totally get where he's coming from, but what she did was gross and rude, and I damn well deserve an apology. We have put up with so much crap from her and that event was just over the top.
I decided that I would just take our two DDs and be gone during her visit. I have no interest in seeing her until she can give me a real apology, and if DH doesn't want to address it with her then I just won't be around. I'm done allowing her to treat me like crap.
I get where DH is coming from, I see that it's almost pointless in the fact that it won't really change anything with her behavior because she won't be around to have behavior to change. I just don't want to pretend like it didn't happen and it wasn't super rude of her, because it was and I want it acknolwedged.
But on the bright side, I guess that means I'm officially done with SKIDS *living* in the house! Any time they come it will basically be just a visit unless one of them needs to move back in for some reason after/ during college. But I don't really expect that to happen, they seem to run to BM.

Congrats! It's always a day
Congrats! It's always a day of celebration when they are gone for good!
If they don't spend the night
If they don't spend the night by Thanksgiving, I think it's time you repurposed their bedroom(s).
yes, we've already discussed
yes, we've already discussed what to do.
Right now DD4 and DD6 share the biggest room. SD17 and SD18 have rooms with a jack and jill bathroom in between. I think we'll give those rooms to the DDs then put SD18's queen bed in the biggest room and SD17 and SD18 can share that any time they decide to come.

Well that is even more than what I would do for them. I would put the Bios in the rooms with the J&J bathrooms and then set up the extra larger room into an office/guest room with pull out couch OR a playroom with a pullout couch for future sleepovers. When SS and BS were younger we got them bunkbeds and had them share a room and used the other room for their playroom with the theory that it would atleast keep their bedroom manageable and I only had to tackle keepign up with the playroom. Now that they are older I would give BS but add a fouton for SS and use that other bedroom into an office/game room since DH and the boys are really into that.
We have quite a large home
We have quite a large home because we had all 5 kids when we built so we have 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
I already have a room that is a combo gym/office (I work from home). SS20 has all of his bedroom furniture in the large bonus room above the garage along with a king sized bed/guest room furniture. We bought SD18 a queen bed a couple years ago with the understanding it would be hers to take with her when she started living on her own. She's staying with BM while in college (as BM lives close) so she has no need for it now and although we have a lot of actual bedrooms, we do not have extra attic space to be able to store an entire queen sized bed.
I agree that the skids don't need their own permanent rooms here anymore, but we honestly don't really have much use for the bedroom so I figured why not.
I would start setting boundaries.
Around grown kids moving back home. I'm glad I did after seeing my DHs open door policy with his.

I would gladly clean up a puke mess in SD's bed if it meant her not sleeping over here anymore!!! I swear I am so jealous of women onhere who have skids that stop coming over. Yes I know it sucks for the men but God I just wish I could go 2 weeks without SD17 having to sleep here!
