OT great day!

I  spent the afternoon and early evening in Marseille watching the Olympic flame arrive in France by sea, absolutely incredible! The atmosphere was electric! I particularly appreciated the fact that the second relayer was a para-olympic champion.

We had fabulous sunshine all day ( the tv journalists were all cherry red by the evening), the cameras were all turned seawards all day (deliberate) so nobody saw the storm arrive ( the sky was indigo to the north). The weather changes fast in the Med. It's been a long day.

OT - Happy Hogmanay

I'm about to sign off for this year - I'm waiting for DH to bring home the daughter who's away at school - and have pretty much got the meal in hand (all duck plus a tarte tatin for dessert, in case you're wondering).

I wish you all the very best for this coming year. May your hopes and dreams come true. May this year bring you health, wealth and happiness, though not necessarily in that order. You are all unique and special and I wish I could hug each and every one of you. *yes3*

I wish you all a very happy New Year and lang may yer lums reek!

Completely OT - Rags, I need your help

One of my daughters is living in a group home. There are 12 of them. In October she will be 21 and I wanted to make her a cake for her birthday before whisking her away for a trip to Madeira. So we asked one of the educators if here were any other food sensitivities (she has celiac) and that's how we learned that one of the others was diabetic. I'm assuming T1. What could I add (maybe as a starter) that would be acceptable for this person. I hate the idea of anyone being or feeling left out. Hummus? Gaspacho? I really have no idea.

Something to brighten your day

Saw these two letters to Carolyn Hax this morning and thought some of you might enjoy them. The first is by a daddy's little girl who feels neglected since daddy got remarried (think you'll like the answer to her letter). The second is by a COD who is horrified that daddy married someone who is younger than at least two of his children (clutching pearls). How dare he!
