I'm very sad from the text message I received from FSD11 last night. It sounds like we may need to go to court to get primary custody. BM and FH divorced because of her method of conflict resolution. It seems FSD11 is the target lately.

FSD: Mama is mad at me.

ME: Why?

FSD: We were going to see a movie and I said yes but then I said no and she got upset, she wouldn't talk to me for 4 days and now she's at my aunt's house.

ME: Aw I'm sorry.

FSD: I'm just so flippin sad. I wish I could move in with you.

She knows who's got her back.

FSD11 called me Monday night to have a semi panic attack about the yearbook interview she had the following day. We talked for awhile, went through some sample interview questions they had given her, and then I talked her off the ledge. I am a trial attorney and do approximately 4-6 trials a year. Everytime in trial I have to speak to a group of strangers. And it is terrifying everytime I do it. We talked about how scared I am when I do jury trials and I have years of experience.

I am a criminal defense attorney, more specifically a public defender. When we're in public, generally my clients don't approach me beause you don't want to know Ms. Diamonds, because if you do, you must be a criminal defendant. But sometimes people do approach me in public and everytime it happens FSD11 knows it's someone from work just intuitively.

I'm not good about updating this. Life is generally simple in these parts. Instead I think I'll convert this blog of mine to just involve quotes from FSD11 that tickle my funny bone. I know it's not quite the same as having a young child making silly comments, but her age is just funny to me and as she grows up, I think it will stay funny.

FSD11: When you were little did you go to church?

ME: Sometimes. I always counted down though. After Communion I knew it was almost over.

It's hard to watch this child turn into the little butterfly she is when we only see her every other weekend. I wish the visitation schedule was different. I wish BM hadn't moved so far from FH when they first divorced. It's like every time we get her she's a different person. 

I want a baby.

I am 32 years old and have prioritized my career over my family life. I didn't meet my fiance until I was 29, after having been in what I see now as an emotionally abusive relationship for about 6 years. I went to college, to law school, and have worked as a lawyer for 5 years. I am so happy to have found the man I do want to spend my life with and so happy that I have an amazing relationship with his 11-year-old daughter I feel unfulfilled in that I want my own baby. 

There Are Always Exceptions to Being LC

Our relationship with BM has generally been LC. There have been some occassions where she doesn't think before she speaks and it rubs me the wrong way, but in general, I know she appreciates what I do for her daughter. Custody arrangements between FH and BM have always been easy, because as much as her and FH didn't work together, she sees the value in him continuing his relationship with his daughter. So his changed work schedule involves an easy flip of their custody arrangement. Life is generally easy dealing with BM.

But there are exceptions that sometimes give me pause. 

Holidays Year 3

This ws my third Christmas with FH, but sadly we weren't together this Christmas. I hate his work schedule so much. Being he works in car sales and I work in a professional setting, none of our holiday schedules ever line up. What's a holiday for me is a great sales day for him. I went to visit my family this Christmas since FSD11 was with her mom for Christmas this year. It was the first Christmas since we've been together that I didn't spend with him and that was hard. Next year we'll all be together, so that's good.

I have many online presences, including many different online journaling sites (namely LJ which I realize is so last year (or so 1999) but I keep it up.) I decided to make a steptalk blog just to document my life with FH and FSD11 and whatever else is to come, mostly for feedback from anyone who has it and whatnot if I ever need it.
