Gotta love it!
Gotta love it when BMs make stuff up that totally brainwashes/confuses the kids. Trashionista had skids convinced that tonight's concert at their school had an audience cap on it where each child could bring only two people. We first heard that about two weeks ago. FF to earlier this week, when she left DH a vm saying that the boys had requested that she and DH be the only ones to attend the concert, and that they wanted her and DH to sit together.

Had a moment of tenderness toward BM today....

VENT
Something snapped and I sent an e-mail to DH and BM. Basically a red-flag, please-look-at-what-your-kids-are-turning-into-from-an-outsider's-perspective (am I an outsider, as their SM?)...I am so sick of constant sacrifice and getting nothing in return but more nonsense. I thought maybe they could unify for the sake of their kids. But, true to her form, BM basically ignored it- made a comment in a passing e-mail to DH that I was pointing out where HE was going wrong- of course she'd never ever look at it as something SHE had done wrong. Aaaargh.

Twins and birthday parties
So because SSs are twins- even though they are almost 8, in separate classes at school, have different personalities and different interests and different friends- BM always lobbies for them BOTH to be invited whenever one is invited to a birthday party.
IMO, if two people attend a birthday party, each needs to bring a gift. So they must bring twice the gift that they would bring if they just HONORED THE F-ING INVITATION and stopped BEGGING PEOPLE TO BOTH ATTEND.

Sign-up for skids' Halloween parties
I received sign-up genius invites (under my name, as my kids' school uses sign-up genius too) to help with skids' parties at their school. Our family dropped the ball on sending in goodies for gift baskets for their annual fundraiser, so I wanted to contribute something. I signed up to donate one item for each skid's class.

So it's our anniversary....
...and I gotta say that if I could go back in time, I would bitch smack that me and tell me just to put up and shut up. It was a miserable marriage and staying in it would have taught my kids nothing about how love is supposed to be in a healthy relationship...but we would have had money to go out to dinner with. I think I am really feeling this because I'm just completely exhausted from the baby's reflux/not sleeping combo...but aargh.

Deep thought
Know what's really annoying about skids? The relationship is never a "constant". There are nice times, touching moments even, but suddenly even an hour later, you're back to being the one they're awkward around. It changes all the time. Perhaps because of BM and her alienation and lies...perhaps other unknowns....perhaps just because they're not your blood....but I find it really hard to deal with on skid weekends. Anyone else? Once they start acting weird, every little thing they do annoys me and I need separation. Yay for DD and DS coming back in an hour or so!!

Am I on the right track here?
I would love some advice from my fellow Steptalkers!
I'm going to bullet to be concise and easier to follow:
*Skids are on BM's medical insurance, which DH pays half of
*BM and DH have joint physical and legal custody of SSs, and they divide custody time right down the line 50/50 (except when BM travels- so technically DH has them more)
*Nowhere in their CO does it state that SSs must see a doctor that BM decides upon simply because they are covered under her insurance. It is basic language that states that all medical decisions must be agreed upon.

Update on student directory drama from last year
"Score" one for stepfamilies (because let's face it- it HAS to be the little things that keep us going. After doing this for a while, I am worn-down and jaded). Anyway, last year BM had her lawyer threaten litigation against the skids' school district if the PTSO didn't remove my name and my kids' names from skids' listings. The principal thought it was ridiculous, but he had to concede as their wording in the PTSO by-laws was "parent or guardian".
