Blissful week coming to a close

BettyRay's picture

SSons were at camp this week and it was been heaven - lots of alone time with DH - it has been awesome.

We pick them up tomorrow morning. I'm sure they'll be dirty, tired and total PITAs from being sugared up all week.

I'm preparing myself - I know DH will be fawning all over them and catering to their every need. I know this is normal for bio-parents but as a step I find it awkward.

Oh and I'm sure BM will be blowing up the phone calling her precious boys....

DH finds a surprise and it's not good

BettyRay's picture

So DH has been asking SS16 for his safe boater card. Where we live kids now have to take a boater safety class by the time they turn 16 in order to legally operate a boat or jet ski. But I digress.

We took the class with SS16 in January. When we got our cards DH gave SS16 his. I questioned it but DH's reasoning was that SS16 is old enough to keep track of it.

Well SS16 has "misplaced" it. Translation: he lost it. SS16 swears DH has it but we can't find it anywhere. As a last resort DH asked SS16 if he could search for it in SS16's room. SS16 was fine with that.

Update - SS16 got a job

BettyRay's picture

So SS16 will be working 2 nights a week and all day Saturday. DH talked to BM and SS16 will be staying will her this weekend and working. DH, SS11 and I will be heading to our summer home Smile

DH came to the conclusion that SS16 needs deal with missing out on our weekends away. DH dropped off our beater-car at BM's for SS16 to use (to get back and forth to work) while we're gone. SS16 is to meet us at our house when we get back.

SS16 got a job or DH’s life is over

So SS16 got a part-time job – awesome! He’ll work a couple of weekday evenings and Saturdays. He got his driver’s license last week and part of getting the license was that he was to get a job to pay for gas and insurance. So cool that SS16 followed through.

Anyway DH and I are talking about how this will affect our plans (as we have plans to be out of town for the last weekend in June and the 4th).

DH: We’ll just have to stay home.

ME: You can stay home; I’m going to get out of dodge as planned. And why should SS11 be penalized because SS16 got a job?

Baseball Game - No Thanks

BettyRay's picture

DH wanted me to go to SS11's baseball game last night. I said no, I just couldn't do it. Not after the weekend and SS11's bad attitude. Please see yesterday's post for the background: http://www.steptalk.org/node/150641 (I had problems posting yesterday)

I spent the evening alone and, although I missed DH, it was better than sitting through SS11's game being glared at by BM and ignored by SS11.

TGIM! (Thank G-d Its Monday)

I really struggled with the skids this weekend. I’ve been with DH for 8 years and gradually it’s gotten better but every once and awhile the boys really set me off. This weekend was one of those weekends that make me want to run for it.

Friday I got home from work and SS11 asked me if I could wash his Class A Boy Scout shirt. It had a stain on the front, he needed it for camp on Saturday. I said sure. Scrubbed the shirt out and washed it. Stupid me. I should have said no.

Happy Mother's Day!

BettyRay's picture

I hope yours was better than mine.

DH made a big deal about taking the boys to get a Mother's Day gift for BM last weekend. Then he made plans for us to visit MIL yesterday. We stopped on the way and got her bakery - all her favorites.

I got nothing but a "sorry I didn't have time to get you anything."

Whatever. I let it go, I didn't feel like getting into it especially because it's a trip 3-hour trip to the inlaw's house.

At Least BM is Consistent at Something

BettyRay's picture

Yet again (8th year in a row) DH found out that SS11 would be playing baseball this summer when he got an e-mail from BM YESTERDAY afternoon with the practice and game schedule attached.

The first practice is TONIGHT.

Oh and SS11 hates baseball but no matter because BM likes hanging out with the other moms at games. Honestly, it was embarrassing last summer - SS11 would cheer when the coach benched him. That’s when DH forced him to go to the games, most of the time SS11 would try to get out of it by saying he was sick.

Bleeding Gums

BettyRay's picture

SS11 has gingivitis, which the doctor identified at his annual physical. He’s got an appointment with the dentist this week – this should be interesting.

The doctor recommended gargling with a peroxide and water solution once a day. So DH was on him all weekend to brush and gargle.

But really what good will it do?

Update: Finders Keepers...

So I told DH about finding the iPod Touch Friday night. He was in total agreement with me. SS11 asked me if I had seen his iPod Saturday morning. I said yes and told him that he needed to keep better track of his things. Then I gave it back to him.

DH laid into SS11 and told him the responsible thing to do when he forgets his iPod in the car is to call us and tell us where it is so we can put it in a safe place.

Oh and BM just bought SS11 a cell phone so know he's got yet another thing to keep track of.
